After 2.5 Years Of Sushant Singh Rajput's Death, His Flat Lies Vacant As Tenants Fear To Rent It

Bollywood actor, late Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai apartment in June 2020, and his case is still being investigated. The actor was living in that apartment since December 2019, and he leased it for around Rs. 4.5 lakhs per month. During the COVID-19 lockdown when he reportedly committed suicide, he was sharing the house with his girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty.

Fast forward to now, the flat in Mumbai, where late actor, Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead, has not found a taker despite being up for rent for the last 2.5 years. Real estate broker, Rafique Merchant, recently took to his IG handle and posted a clip of the sea-facing flat. Mentioning that the flat is available for rent at Rs. 5 lakh per month, the broker added the features of the lush apartment.

“People are scared to move into this flat. When prospective tenants would hear that this is the same apartment where he died, they would not even visit the flat. Nowadays, people are at least visiting the flat as the news of his death has become old. Yet, the deal is not getting finalised."

Further in the interview, the real estate broker also revealed that the owner of the flat doesn't want to come down on the rent. However, he also added that the tenants feel that they could buy a same-sized flat at the same price without the baggage of the controversy it is linked to. In his words:

"The owner is also hell-bent and doesn’t want to come down on the rent. If he does, it’ll be sold quickly. Since he’s selling it at the market price, tenants prefer buying some other flat of a similar size in the same area since it would come without the baggage of controversy that this flat is associated with.”

Rafique mentioned that the parties are well-informed about Sushant's suicide in the same flat and added that even if someone is ready to buy it, their relatives scare them. He revealed that the owner is not willing to give the flat to any celebrity now and is looking forward to a tenant from the corporate world. He concluded:

“The parties are told in advance that this is where Sushant used to stay. Some people don’t mind the history and want to go for it. But their friends and family members discourage them from going ahead with the deal. Now the owner doesn’t want to rent out the flat to a film celeb, no matter who or how big he or she is. He’s clear that he wants to hand over the flat to a corporate person.”

For the unversed, Sushant’s death is being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate and the Narcotics Control Bureau for its alleged association with the drugs-related matter.
