Janhvi Kapoor is the elder daughter of filmmaker, Boney Kapoor and his wife, Sridevi Kapoor. Following in her mother's footsteps, Janhvi made her acting debut with the film, Dhadak, in 2018. The actress never shies away from accepting the privileges she has received in the Hindi film industry due to her filmy background. However, apart from enjoying the perks from a young age, Janhvi has also experienced the negative consequences of being a part of the showbiz.
In a recent interview with filmmaker, Karan Johar, Janhvi Kapoor opened up about being sexualised by the media and revealed that it is not a new phenomenon for her. The actress recalled that when she attended an event with her parents, the late Sridevi and Boney Kapoor, at just 12-13 years old, her photos ended up on a pornographic site. She added:
“The first time I felt sexualised by the media, I think I was 12-13 years old. I went for an event with mom and dad and there were pictures of me online. Instagram and social media had just started to boom, and I found pictures of me in what seemed like a pornographic site, and boys in my school were like looking at it and laughing.”

Janhvi further mentioned that she finds it very weird to navigate the constant objectification, but she has been doing so for a long time now. She also pointed out how she is often targeted for being a nepo kid and stated that she needs people to understand her real self. Talking about the same, she said:
“Again, I am saying this repeatedly because I think I am very apologetic about where I come from and I need to get over that. I am sure other people deal with it in a much more different sense but in a much more real and genuinely terrifying sense.”
Janhvi Kapoor also discussed being criticised for her dressing sense and getting sexualised by the media. Speaking about how she is perceived by people, the actress said that she does like to dress a certain way, but she is always judged for her choices. In her words:
“On one hand, I do like dressing a certain way and I have been brought up in a household where I don’t feel apologetic about it, where I don’t feel judged by it but I do understand that there is sentiment of a sort of character assassination that a girl faces when she dresses in a way that makes it seem like she is comfortable with her sexuality.”

There is no denying that Janhvi Kapoor loves to flaunt her curves and wear the most sensuous dresses whenever she steps out. However, after being scrutinised for it, she starts second-guessing her picks. In the same conversation, the actress said she does not want to be perceived in a certain way as it goes against her core values. Janhvi concluded:
“But it goes against my core values as a feminist also to second guess that if I wear this, people will think a certain way.”
On the work front, Janhvi Kapoor will next be seen in the film, Mr And Mrs Mahi, alongside Rajkummar Rao.
