Jaya Bachchan Talks On Women Empowerment In Old Video, Gets Slammed For Not Supporting Aishwarya Rai

The Bachchans are the most respected family in the Indian cinema. It was in 1973 when Amitabh Bachchan, tied the knot with the Bengali beauty, Jaya Bachchan. They are blessed with two children, Shweta Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. For some time now, the Bachchans have been in the news for their alleged tiff with their bahu, Aishwarya Rai, and now, we have got hold of an old video wherein Jaya talked about women's empowerment.

Jaya Bachchan reveals she was happier being a homemaker

Recently, a netizen shared an old video of Jaya Bachchan from her appearance on What The Hell Navya, wherein she along with Navya Naveli Nanda and Shweta Bachchan, talked about women empowerment. During the episode, when Navya spoke about the sacrifices women have to make for the sake of their families, Jaya objected. The veteran actress spoke about her own experience as a mother and said:

“I remember when I stopped working and everybody said, ‘Oh she’s sacrificed her career for her marriage and children’, it was not so. I was really very happy being a mother and a wife. I enjoyed that role more than what I was getting to do (in films), which is a repeat of the same thing. It was not a sacrifice at all.”

Adding to Jaya's statement, Navya also mentioned how people think that women's empowerment is only related to women who fight for their careers. However, she added that one should not look down upon women who choose to be a homemaker, rather than becoming a CEO of a company. To this, the veteran actress added:

"I mean, if today, whether it's me, it's you or Shweta or any other women we are interacting with, who have a voice, have got it because our mothers have given it."

Netizens slam Jaya Bachchan for not supporting Aishwarya Rai

Soon after the video was shared on Reddit, netizens were quick to react to the same. They flooded the post's comment section and slammed Jaya for being biased towards her bahu, Aishwarya Rai. One user commented, "Lol remember when she said she likes Aish cause she stands back and listens to them. So autonomy is only for her, her daughter and her granddaughter???" Another pointed out, "So Aish had a choice to be a homemaker and an actress. She chose to work after raising Aaradhya and that created problem between them?"

Jaya Bachchan revealed she likes that her 'bahu', Aishwarya Rai never pushes herself

During her appearance on the popular chat show, Koffee With Karan, in 2007, Jaya Bachchan was asked if she discussed her problems with bahu, Aishwarya Rai, after her daughter, Shweta Bachchan got married. To everyone's surprise, Jaya lauded Aishwarya and mentioned how the latter stays grounded despite being a successful diva. Jaya could be quoted as saying:

"She is lovely. I love her. I have always loved her. I have never ever seen her push herself whenever we are all together. I like that quality of hers to stand behind. She is quiet. She listens and she is taking it all in. And another beautiful thing is that she has fitted in so well in the family. She knows who are our good friends."
