Veteran actress turned politician, Jaya Bachchan is popular for her outspoken personality. Known for never shying away from being her real self, Jaya always remains in the public eye. She fearlessly expresses her opinions without mincing her words, both in her personal as well as professional life. While she is often assumed to be arrogant and rude, the veteran actress shares strong bond with many celebrities, including filmmaker, Karan Johar.
In one of his interviews a couple of years back, Karan Johar was asked to shed light on the worst criticism that he received for his hosting skills. To this, the filmmaker replied that Jaya Bachchan once told him that he speaks too loudly even when he has a mic in his hand. He further recalled how Jaya scolded him and asked him to stop screaming while he was trying to be energetic. In his words:
"That I speak too loudly, when I am on the stage even though there’s a mic. Jaya (Jaya Bachchan) aunty told me once. She said ‘Karan you are on the mic, why are you shouting?' I was like I am trying to be energetic. She said 'You have a mic and that’s what it is for, you don’t need to scream when you are out speaking'."

Jaya Bachchan is well known for her tiff with the paps as she doesn't like being clicked. During the screening of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Jaya Bachchan was accompanied by her son, Abhishek Bachchan and her daughter, Shweta Bachchan for the event. However, it was her heated interaction with the paps that grabbed the attention. She warned the shutterbugs not to shout and said:
"I am not deaf, aaram se baat karo."

Recently, while speaking at Mid-Day’s show, Sit With Hitlist, Karan Johar revealed an unheard insight into Jaya Bachchan's personality. Talking about Jaya’s lack of interest towards getting clicked by the paparazzi, the filmmaker revealed that many people assume this gesture as a reflection of her rude personality and arrogant behaviour. However, Karan claimed that the veteran actress was severely misunderstood, as she is very relaxed and calm in real life. He said:
“She is the warmest, kindest, most giving human being. She is so calm and composed. She would sit there on set chat, with all the ADs and she would play pranks. She is great fun. And she is nothing like this. It is just that if you put cameras in her face, she is going to get annoyed. I wish everyone would get an experience of the large heart that Jaya Aunty has. She is not like this at all.”

Karan Johar has a close friendship with Shweta Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. Once, while speaking to Rajeev Masand and Anupama Chopra on their podcast, the filmmaker revealed how Jaya Bachchan once slapped Shweta after she caught her reading a filmy magazine with him. Karan said:
“We had very normal mothers who made sure that we… I remember there was a cardinal rule that none of us were allowed to read film magazines. So, I was the only one who would try to sneak in CineBlitz and Star Dust, till one day Jaya Aunty actually slapped Shweta because she was reading Star Dust along with me.”
For the unversed, Jaya Bachchan and Karan Johar worked together in many films, including Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kal Ho Naa Ho.
