Jaya Bachchan's Father Told Amitabh Bachchan's Father, 'My Family Is Ruined' Right After Wedding

Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan's love story was simple. For the former, it was love at first sight. The couple got married on June 3, 1973, in Mumbai. While the couple's wedding photos went viral, not many knew about their private wedding ceremony, and even the neighbours were unaware of it. However, it was Harivansh Rai Bachchan, who had once opened up about the details of Amitabh's wedding, and shared how Jaya Bachchan's father was unhappy with their daughter's decision.

Amitabh Bachchan had only five baraatis for his wedding with Jaya Bachchan

It seems like the Bachchans love keeping their weddings private affairs. Once, the late poet, Harivansh Rai Bachchan shared details about his son, Amitabh Bachchan's wedding in his autobiography titled, Afternoon Of Time. According to a report by Rediff, Harivansh Rai Bachchan revealed that the wedding was an intimate affair with only a handful of people in attendance.

In the same autobiography, Harivansh Rai Bachchan revealed that Amitabh's haldi was a hush-hush affair. He revealed that even the neighbours were unaware of Amitabh's wedding, and the family had lied that the decorations were done, and the superstar had a shoot the next day. He wrote:

“When the neighbours asked what the long decorative strings of light bulbs signified, we explained that Amitabh would be shooting a film here the next night."

Harivansh Rai Bachchan revealed Jaya Bachchan's father's shocking words

Harivansh Rai Bachchan further wrote in his autobiography that once the ceremony was over, he greeted his daughter-in-law, Jaya's father and congratulated him on having a son-in-law like Amitabh Bachchan. And while he was expecting similar words, Jaya's father, Taroon Kumar Bhaduri, exclaimed, "My Family is utterly ruined". The excerpt from the book can be read as:

“Before we left, I embraced the father of my new daughter-in-law and congratulated him on getting a son-in-law like Amit, expecting him to say the same in respect of Jaya. But he said, ‘My family is utterly ruined.'”
