Jimmy Sheirgill is best remembered for his chocolate boy image in the 90s Bollywood, especially with films like Maachis, Mohabbatein, Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S, Hum Tum among others. Apart from his talented acting mettle, Jimmy has won hearts for his good looks and charismatic personality. In his prosperous career over two decades, Jimmy has won several honourable awards and accolades, including Big Star Entertainment Awards and Producers Guild Film Awards among others.
In a recent interaction with the Hindustan Times, Jimmy Sheirgill opened up on his career over 30 years in Bollywood, and revealed that he has been sheerly underpaid so far. He asserted that in comparison to the tremendous efforts that he has put in, the compensation he receives is incredibly low. In his words:
“No! I don’t know about anything else but I think I deserve much more money than they’re giving me at this moment for the kind of hard work that I put in.”

Further in the same revelation, the actor talked about how from the very beginning of his career, he has remained quite experimental in his choice of work. Jimmy highlighted how he worked in good roles, whose screen presence was very low. Adding more on it, he then mentioned that such kind of gestures on his part led many to believe that he would do anything for free, which eventually resulted in the kind of underpayment he has been receiving so far. Jimmy stated:
“Main shuru se thoda experimental raha. I have always had the urge of doing something different and did roles that were good even if the screentime was not enough...or even when they were not very meaty and even if the makers did not have enough funds for the actors’ fees. But that created an impression ki ‘arey ye toh free mein bhi kar leta hai’. I guess everybody tries to save money from negotiating and all that and that’s why I wasn’t given as per the amount of efforts I put in.”
Moving further in the interview, Jimmy was asked to reveal whether he was happy with his current state of work in Bollywood. In his response, he mentioned that he is fine with everything, as long as he receives payment on-time, whether or not it is less than what he expected. Moreover, he took a witty dig over his previous ill experiences in the film industry and hilariously revealed how he has learnt a lot over his career of 30 years.

In the concluding segment of the interview, Jimmy spoke about his journey and experience working in OTT platforms and revealed how due to his overtly experimental nature, he suited well into the platform. Adding how OTT helped him come out of his chocolate boy image, he mentioned:
“Everyone’s saying that OTT is giving you time to experiment. But I’ve experimented with myself my whole life. I’ve always tried to do something different at some point. I was doing solo leads and moved on to doing supporting roles, because I found them more meatier. I was a little worried initially that am I doing the right thing by giving up these solo films and moving on to doing these kinds of roles but now when I look back at it, I feel I’m glad that I took the chance of getting out of that chocolate boy image.”
