John and Bipasha had been in a relationship for nearly 10 years, and the breakup news came as a heartbreak for their fans. Reports suggested that Bipasha was keen to tie the knot with John, but he was not ready for the same. In an interview with The Times of India, John revealed:
“We have grown out of the relationship and somewhere down the line, I'd point a finger at myself and say that I probably didn't match up to a lot of things. We both had different visions for this relationship. I probably wasn't ready to commit at a point of time when the relationship needed culmination.”
In 2007, Bipasha Basu and Cristiano Ronaldo had attended an event together and were spotted casually hanging out at a party later on. Bipasha was in a serious relationship with John during that time, and her kissing picture with Cristiano went viral in the newspapers. In an interview with The Times Of India, Bipasha Basu had hinted about getting cheated on. She had said no breakup is a good breakup, and that time heals itself. She had said:
"Though no break-up is a good break-up, time heals everything, including broken friendships but cheating, infidelity and deceit are generally tough to forgive, and in those cases, real friendship is not possible."
Though John tried to keep calm after announcing the breakup and also refrained from commenting on anything related to his breakup, he could not help himself from reacting to Bipasha’s accusations. After the accusation of infidelity and cheating, John reacted to the same in an interview with Hindustan Times and said:
“I know that break-ups stir up a lot of emotions and I can empathise with that. I come from a family where credibility and honesty have always mattered. Cheating and dishonesty, in any form, is not in my DNA."
