Juhi Chawla is one of the most beautiful actresses of her generation. The diva, who lifted the crown as Miss India 1984, was one of the superhit divas in the 90s and performed in some classic hits like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Darr, Andaz Apna Apna, Yes Boss among so many others. Juhi reigned in all her glory, and became a very competitive actress along with her peers, Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. However, there was once a time when she made a startling statement about one of her contemporaries.
In an earlier interview in 2014 with Rediff, Juhi Chawla had opened up about a number of films that she was offered first but she rejected, as a result of which she lost some memorable opportunities. Elaborating more, she referred to how she foolishly rejected the film, Dil To Paagal Hai, as a result of which she lost a chance to work along with Madhuri Dixit. Moreover, she even mentioned having rejected the films, Judaai and Raja Hindustani, and concluded how these two decisions made another of her contemporary, Karisma Kapoor, have a successful career and get stardom. In her words:
“The only time I got a chance to work with her (Madhuri Dixit) was in Dil Toh Pagal Hai. Back then I didn’t want to play the second lead to Madhuri. At that time I was a little bubble-headed. You make foolish decisions. I rejected Raja Hindustani and Judaai also. All these films went on to become blockbusters. I am responsible for Karisma Kapoor’s stardom.”

In the same conversation, Juhi further admitted openly how there was a stiff professional rivalry between her and other contemporary actresses of her time, including Karisma Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit and Raveena Tandon, back in the 1990s. Juhi mentioned how a sort of cold war continued between them for the longest time, and they would only meet at work, and exchange nothing more than a bare minimum of pleasantries with one another. She mentioned:
“Not only Madhuri, but Karisma, Manisha, Raveena– we were all rivals. The rivalry remained for some years. We used to meet only on occasions like some film sets or functions. We would just exchange pleasantries and wouldn’t talk beyond that. We all worked in solo heroine films. Very rarely have I done films with two heroines. There were constant comparisons.”
For the unversed, Juhi Chawla is married to her businessman husband, Jay Mehta and the duo is blessed with a son and a daughter. While Juhi and Jay had gotten married in 1995, it wasn’t until the former was pregnant with her first child that everyone got to know about her marriage. Well, the diva chose to conceal such an important aspect of her life. In an earlier interview with Rajeev Masand, Juhi had retrospected this very decision of hers and mentioned since she was at the peak of her career then, she was sceptical about her marital status hampering her stardom.

For the unversed, Juhi Chawla had kickstarted her career in the glamour world by taking part in the Femina Miss India beauty pageant in 1984. Back then, a young and naïve Juhi had simply enthralled the judges and audience with her breathtaking beauty and intelligent thinking. As a result, she effortlessly lifted the title of Miss India 1984, and she was crowned by none other than Rekha.
