Over the years, South Korea has established itself as the most prosperous land for pop music. Standing today, most pop bands that are immensely renowned in the music industry hail from South Korea. One such K-pop band that has taken the world by storm is Girl's Generation. The band has eight members, and each one of them is thriving in the industry both as individual artists and as a group.
Popular actress, Lee Yeon Hee, who has featured in several hit K-dramas like Miss Korea, East Of Eden, Race and, more. Recently, she revealed that she also auditioned to get into K-pop group, Girls’ Generation. For the unversed, Lee Yeon Hee and all the other members of Girls’ Generation trained together during their initial days in the industry. Hence, they all share a close bond of camaraderie. When the band debuted in 2007, many reports suggested that Lee Yeon Hee was also going to join the band. However, things didn’t go as planned.

Actress, Lee Yeon Hee recently appeared on Girl’s Generation vocalist, Yuri’s YouTube channel. The duo was seen cooking together in the video and, at the same time, shared memories from their training days. During one such anecdote, Yuri revealed that SM Entertainment rejected Lee Yeon Hee from joining Girls’ Generation as she was too pretty. Yuri further added:
“No I really mean it! There’s a myth about this within SM Entertainment. She was just too pretty on her own. People said that she would take all of the attention if she was put in between the other girls, who are all about the same level of prettiness.”
Yuri further added that people have a misconception about why Lee Yeon Hee did not join Girls’ Generation, where the real reason was her beauty. She further divulged that Lee Yeon Hee would have been the band's leader if she had joined it. Lee Yeon Hee, to this, had a witty response. She added that if she had become the leader of the band, then her camaraderie with the members would have never been established. Lee Yeon Hee further added:
“If I did join the group and became the leader, then I probably wouldn’t have become close with you guys, hahaha.”

Girls' Generation initially debuted in the K-pop industry in 2007 with nine members in total. Later, in 2014, Jessica left the group to embark on her solo journey. During the band's debut, there was speculation that Lee Yeon Hee would join and be part of the group, among other things. However, that was not the case. Later, in a 2018 interview, Lee Yeon Hee revealed that she was part of the band’s lineup, but her shortcomings during the training resulted in her being dropped. She also added:
“I lacked a lot while training alongside the Girls’ Generation members.”
