When a girl starts her new journey after her wedding, she looks up to her mother for guidance and support. A mother shares a lovely bond with her daughter and showers her with all the love and life lessons, which her daughter will require in her life. On the occasion of Daughter’s Day (September 22, 2019), Kajol had taken to her Instagram handle and had shared a collage of sweet photos with her mother, Tanuja and had written, “Positions reversed! And to wish her mother, Kajol took to her Instagram handle and shared a video reminiscing her mother’s journey of 75 years and captioned it as “Wishing my awesomely super mom an awesomely super birthday. She's the one who taught me what the super in superwoman stood for!” followed by a bunch of heart emojis. In an interview, Kajol had opened up about her equation with her mother, Tanuja while growing up. She had revealed, “I was petrified of her. I wouldn't put one toe out of line if I knew she didn't approve of it. My mother was one of the most forward-thinking people. I had the most amazing upbringing because of it. Topics like compassion, anger, forgiveness and death were discussed. Most things were not hidden. We were always told to take the most tolerant route and that revenge doesn't get you anything.”

Kajol had further added, “Till she had us she was well known for her creatively fabulous abuses. So, when she told us that abusing is bad, we would say 'But mom you do it'. And then she stopped. Till today I remember one of the things she said, 'You know why they use abuses because they don't have a better vocabulary. If you want to insult somebody, insult them better.'” (Suggested Read: Kareena Kapoor Khan Reveals Why She And Saif Ali Khan Would Send Taimur Ali Khan To Boarding School)
Kajol’s mother and veteran actress, Tanuja had undergone a surgery for diverticulitis in June 2019. Kajol had taken to her Instagram and had shared a black and white picture with her ailing mother. In the picture, Kajol could be seen smiling with her head on her mother’s shoulders. Thanking the well-wishers for praying for her mother's speedy recovery, Kajol had captioned her thank-you note as “This is just a great big THANK YOU to everyone who has called and prayed and thought of us. This smile that you see is of sheer gratitude.”
In a throwback interview with the UNI, when Kajol was asked if her mother is similar to the character she portrays in the movie, Helicopter Eela. she had replied, “My mother is the complete opposite of Eela. The kind of upbringing she gave me is something I will treasure. I think I am lucky to be born to her. I could not have chosen a better mother. Because she was extremely brave bringing me up.”
In an interview with a leading portal, Kajol had shared that she had learned to be empowered from her mother, Tanuja. In her words, “One important thing that I have learnt is that women cannot be empowered by anybody else but themselves. When we talk about women empowerment, we tell women to speak out. If you believe in yourself, that is the biggest empowerment. If I go to work, hopefully, my son grows up to realise that women are like this and they are capable of this and that is normal.”
Kajol had further talked about how women empowerment will become a reality and had equipped, “Every mother should teach her son to expect better from the women around him and that's how women's empowerment will happen. As mothers, we have the power to change the world because we are taking care of the next generation. We have the power to change their thinking by not taking the crap and standing up for ourselves. We don't need to say anything. We need to show them.” (Do Read: Angad Bedi Opens Up On Keeping Daughter, Mehr Away From Paparazzi, Says 'A Child Should Be A Child')
