Kalki Koechlin On Being Misinterpreted As A 'White Girl' In India, Reveals She Was Asked For Drugs

Kalki Koechlin is one of the most famous faces in the Hindi film industry. The actress leaves no stone unturned to mesmerise her fans with her beauty and powerful acting mettle. Kalki was seen in some much-loved movies, such as Dev.D, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. The actress then turned to screenwriting in 2011 for the crime thriller, That Girl in Yellow Boots, wherein she also portrayed the lead role. Coming to her personal life, Kalki announced her pregnancy with her boyfriend, Guy Hershberg, on September 29, 2019, and became a mother to her adorable daughter, Sappho. Recently, the actress opened up about being a victim of stereotypes as she was earlier prejudiced as a 'white girl' in India.

In an interview with Siddhaarth Aalambayan on his show, The Male Feminist, Kalki Koechlin shared that she was asked for drugs just because people misinterpreted her as a 'white girl', and the minute she answered back in Tamil, the same people started calling her Akka. Elaborating more on the same, Kalki mentioned:

"I saw it (patriarchy) very young because I was asked for drugs. Because I was the only white girl in my group so it was about loose morals, the white girls’ phenomenon. They watch Baywatch and think everyone is like that. The minute I would answer back in Tamil, they would be like Akka, sister. Suddenly their perspective of you changes just because you speak in their language."

Kalki Koechlin on her casting couch experience

In the same interview, the Dev.D actress talked about the discrimination she faced in the early days of her career. She also shared her experience of casting couch. Talking more about the same, Kalki mentioned that she once went to give an audition for a movie, which she really liked. The actress stated that then she got a callback and was asked to meet the producer. Kalki revealed when she went to meet the producer in his office, the blinds were down, and she was told that it would be a big opportunity for her. The actress mentioned that the producer asked her for dinner, and she immediately understood what was going on. Kalki stated that she clearly mentioned that this was not for her. Elaborating more on the same, Kalki stated:

"There was a film I did an audition for and I really liked and they called me back and said that you just need to meet the producer. So, I met the producer in his office with the blinds down and he said, ‘So, you know this is going to be your big opportunity. You are going to make it with this and I would really like to know you better. Can we go for dinner?’ I got the drift of it and said that ‘Listen, it’s not for me. I am not into that."

Kalki Koechlin talked about the nasty comments she had received

In the same interview, Kalki Koechlin then talked about the constant criticism and nasty comments she had to receive. She mentioned that she got comments on her teeth and on her body, which made her ultra-conscious. She also shared an incident when she was only 24 years old, and one of her make-up artists had told her that eyeliner couldn't be applied on the her eyelids as there were many wrinkles. Talking more about the same, Kalki shared:

"And then you get comments like, don’t smile too much, your teeth are too big, you get comments on your body and you get stuff like that said to you and so you become ultra conscious. I remember this make-up artist, I was 24 at that time and he said, ‘I can’t do the eyeliner on your eyes because there are too many wrinkles'."

Well, this is not the first time that Kalki Koechlin talked about the discrimination she received for being prejudiced as a white girl. She talked about such things in many of her interviews. For example, in an interview with The Local, Kalki opened up about the same and mentioned a beautiful line, which could be read as
