The actress made her independent directorial debut with her film, Emergency, which has now been released on the OTT platform, Netflix. The film is based on the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, who imposed an emergency in 1975.

Kangana Ranaut has been showered with praise for her film, Emergency after it was released on Netflix. The film quickly climbed up the platform's trending list and has since secured its spot as number one. The film has been doing well, and the actress has been basking in the success of her portrayal of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. The actress has been sharing fan reviews since the release. However, there was one that caught our attention.

Kangana Ranaut has been sharing reviews by her fans on her Instagram handle. However, recently, she reposted a review that commended her film, Emergency , which showed us her unfiltered side once again. Kangana posted a review on her Instagram stories on March 16, 2025, and shared that America would not acknowledge its real face as a bully. She further called the Oscars silly. She was quoted as saying:

"But America wouldn't like to acknowledge its real face—how they bully, suppress, and arm-twist developing nations. It's been exposed in Emergency. They can keep their silly Oscar. We have National Awards."

Kangana Ranaut's reaction comes after there has been a flood of comments commending the film and her performance in the film. The shared review was from a viewer who had stated that Emergency should be India's entry for the Oscars. However, the actress didn't agree and shared her opinion. The comment on X read, "#EmergencyOnNetflix should go for the Oscars from India. Kangana, what a film."

Filmmaker, Sanjay Gupta praises Kangana Ranaut's Emergency

Filmmaker, Sanjay Gupta also praised the movie. He admitted that he had previously decided not to watch the film as he had prejudged it. However, he was glad that he had changed his mind and had seen the film. He was quoted as saying:

"Today I watched Emergency by @KanganaTeam. Very frankly, I wasn't planning to as I had prejudged it. I am so glad that I was wrong. What a fantastic film by Kangana—both performance & direction. Top Notch & World Class."

Kangana responded to his praise and wrote back, stating that the film industry needs to rise from its prejudices and acknowledge the good work. She further thanked the filmmaker, Sanjay Gupta, for breaking the barrier. She concluded her text by asking the 'film intellectuals' not to try and understand her as she was beyond their reach. She was quoted as saying:

"The film industry must come out of its hate and prejudices and acknowledge good work. Thanks for breaking that barrier, Sanjay ji—the barrier of preconceived notions. My message to all filmi intellectuals: never try to understand me, don't even attempt to. I am beyond your reach."
