It was on June 25, 1983, when Kapil Dev Ramlal Nikhanj, better known as Kapil Dev, had lifted every cricketer's dream trophy, ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy, for the first time in Indian cricket's history. The win was iconic in itself because Kapil's team had beaten the fierce West Indies team in the final at the Lord's by 43 runs.
The former Indian captain is often regarded as one of the greatest captains and all-rounders in world cricket. According to the Bible of Cricket, Wisden had named him the Indian Cricketer of the Century back in 2002. However, not many people know about his personal life and love story with his wife, Romi Bhatia, which includes a big chapter of his relationship with South legend, Kamal Haasan's ex-wife and actress, Sarika.
Kapil Dev and gorgeous South Indian actress, Sarika, were single when the two had met for the first time. According to multiple reports, it was Mrs Manoj Kumar's idea to bring Kapil and Sarika together. After talking to each other, Kapil and Sarika had quickly formed a tremendous friendly bond.
Soon, their closeness had started leading all the headlines of the gossip columns. According to a report in the Hindustan Times at that time, it was stated that Kapil had taken Sarika to meet his parents in Punjab as the two were soon going to tie the marital knot.

Everything was going excellent until it was reported that Kapil Dev had walked out of his relationship with Sarika. The whole nation was talking about their breakup, but neither of the two had clarified the reason behind it in public.
According to reports and multiple sources, the reason behind their breakup was that Kapil Dev had started falling in love with another woman and had denied tying the marital knot with Sarika. Later on, it was reported that the lady was none other than his then-girlfriend and now wife, Romi Bhatia.
Former Indian captain, Kapil Dev's wife, Romi Bhatia is a businesswoman. After her marriage with Kapil, she had started taking care of her new family's hotel business, Kaptain Retreat (previously known as Kapil Hotel). The hotel is in Chandigarh, and along with that, Romi Bhatia also takes care of other small businesses of her family. The fearsome lady had never shied away from talking about her relationship with Kapil Dev and had always been quite vocal about her personal life.

It was former cricketer, Kapil Dev's close friend, Sunil Bhatia, who had introduced him to one of his friends, the gorgeous Romi Bhatia. The first meeting between Kapil Dev and Romi Bhatia took place in Delhi, after the former Indian captain had invited her to watch India's test match against West Indies in 1979.
The businesswoman, Romi Bhatia, had accepted the invitation, and now it was Kapil Dev's turn to impress her to the fullest. Well, the iconic batsman not only stunned her but also registered a huge personal landmark for himself on the same day. Against the strong West Indies team, Kapil Dev had scored his first century. That day, not just Romi Bhatia but the whole world was impressed with Kapil Dev's cricketing prowess.
In Kapil Dev's book, Triumph of the Spirit, the legendary cricketer had spilt the beans about his proposal to Romi Bhatia, and it's nothing but pure filmy. The first thing that makes it a dream proposal is that Romi Bhatia and Kapil Dev were travelling in a local train when he had popped the question to her.
While travelling in the Mumbai local, a big advertising hoarding had come in front of them, which had Kapil Dev's picture on it. The cricketer had immediately asked Romi to capture it and had offered her the idea that they can show this picture to their kids. Yes, you read it right, indeed a masterstroke from the cricketer. He had said,
"Dear, would you like to take pictures of this beautiful place? We can show the picture to our children in the future."
After Kapil Dev's splendid proposal, Romi Bhatia was blushing at first, then took her time, and had finally agreed to his idea of togetherness later.
