Amrish Puri is regarded as the greatest villain in Bollywood's history by film critics and audiences alike. He has worked in more than 450 films and won numerous awards for his exceptional acting skills. His deep voice and dominating screen presence captivated the viewers sending chills down their spine. Over the years, Amrish Puri worked in many famous films, including Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Meri Jung, Mr. India, Shahenshah, Ram Lakhan, Tridev, Ghayal, Damini, Karan Arjun, Jeet, Koyla, and others.
In the upcoming episode of Koffee With Karan 8, Karan Johar is all set to host the power-packed actor-director duo of Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty. During the same, Karan talked about his early days as an assistant director on the iconic film, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, and shared about his bond with the late legendary actor, Amrish Puri, who played Kajol’s strict father in the movie. Karan said:
“I have to tell you, my father and Amrish ji (Amrish Puri) come from the same village, so the first person my father told me whose feet I had to touch was Amrish ji’s.”

Indeed, it was a respectful gesture on behalf of Karan and spoke volumes about his respect for Amrish Puri. Listening to Karan, Ajay Devgn added that the late actor was the only person whose feet he has touched. Ajay added:
“The only person whose feet I have touched is also Amrish ji’s because the first shot I took with him, I touched his feet.”
KJo further recalled his experience of working with Amrish Puri in the film, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and revealed that he used to be very scared of the latter when he was an assistant director on the sets. Talking about the same, Karan shared that Puri was particular about detailing so he used to be traumatised by him. The filmmaker added:
“So I used to be very scared of him. When I was an AD on Dilwale, he was particular about detailing. He would come and say, ‘Ki time kya hai?’ I gave the time. I thought he was asking me the time. He said, ‘London mein iss waqt time kya hai? Scene ka time kya hai? Taaki mein ghadi ko uss time mein set karu.’ About the continuity, he said, ‘Shawl kis tarah mein drape karu?’ I used to be traumatised by him. He was such a wonderful man.”

Ajay Devgn also remembered the late actor, Amrish Puri, and shared an interesting fact about him well-known in Tinseltown. He said that Puri was the first man to attend an event, be it a marriage or a mourning ceremony. Ajay shared:
“They used to say, and it is a fact, that kisi ke ghar pe shaadi ho, kisi ke ghar pe koi death ho jaaye, he was the first man to be there.”
