Karan Johar is undoubtedly, one of the most A-listed filmmakers in Bollywood at the moment. He is the magician in films with whom everybody wishes to work with, while he offers a chance to only a handful of truly talented artists. However, apart from his stint as a producer and director, Karan himself ventured into mainstream acting in the film, Bombay Velvet in 2015, where he essayed a negative role. Unfortunately, he didn’t get much appreciation for the same, and some even went ahead to mock his skills. And now, the filmmaker expresses his earnest desire to enact before the camera once more.
In a recent interaction with Sucharita Tyagi, Karan Johar opened up on his repressed desires of becoming an actor himself and performing before the camera, and not behind it. The filmmaker emphasised that he is ready to go any lengths, even if it means for him to play a fatherly role to a new generation diva like Ananya Panday. Furthermore, he asserted that the character must be substantial enough at any cost. In his words:

“As long as it's a meaty part, a ‘supporting' part, a ‘character artist' part, I'll do it.”

Moving forth in his revelation, Karan Johar then remembered how he never got a single opportunity coming his way, after his stint as an actor in the film, Bombay Velvet. He revealed initially thinking that a lot many opportunities and projects would come towards him henceforth. Karan further revealed that he often has tried to suggest his name in various projects helmed by his own production house, but it never materialised. He added:
“I mean it from the bottom of my heart, I cannot tell you, I didn't get a single offer after that film (Bombay Velvet). I thought so many avenues would open up after that film and I'd have to say no to films. I try to subtly suggest my name in my company. I say, ‘This part is very exciting, I wish I could play it.' Directors just change the topic.”
In the concluding segment of the interview, Karan Johar asserted how it has been a kind of redemption for him, since he has been frustrated over not getting any roles in films to enact. Karan concluded his statements by begging future filmmakers to consider him as an actor to any role that they might find him suitable for. Karan mentioned:
“I got offered no films. I really would like to say this to casting directors who are watching this, ‘Please, I really want to redeem myself. I'm very proud of Bombay Velvet and the endeavour that it was. But, I'd like to do a full-length role. Give me any role. I know I don't have the trappings to play the lead but consider me. I feel there's a frustrated actor inside me who wants to come out. I'm not saying this as a joke. Every day I feel it (acting offer) come today or tomorrow but it never does. I'm ready to give my time to a film, I'm ready.”

Previously, during a press meet for the film, Mr & Mrs Mahi, Karan Johar made a shocking revelation, when he mentioned how many successful actors in the film industry, utilise the tag of nepotism to defend how they lost out on significant opportunities due to star kids. Karan claimed watching many such interviews, where many popular actors blamed nepotism to even reason out their absence from attending parties and events.
