Almost a decade back, do you remember people worrying about ‘log kya kahenge’ because of some random aunties in the society who used to give away free pieces of advice and unwanted concern? Now, with the advent of social media, the trolls have taken their place in everyone’s life and it has opened the Pandora's box of negative comments, opinions and abuses. And celebrities are the top targets of such trolls. Trolls hide behind the anonymity of social media and leave their unwanted comments on every post. While some celebrities choose to ignore and stay mum, some have mastered hitting back on trolls. Belonging to the latter category is Yeh Hai Mohabbatein fame, Karan Patel and his wife, Ankita Bhargava. A while back, Karan shared on his Instagram account, a warning for an Insta user and expressed his angst in the post. Posting the screenshot of the profile, Karan gave him the ‘ultimatum’ to not mess with anyone again.
Soon after his post, when IWM Buzz contacted Karan Patel and asked about the scenario and if he has filed a police complaint, the Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki debutante said, “And if things don’t get better, I will personally find the guy and teach him such a lesson that he will think twice before being born. I am a Mumbai guy, so don’t mess with me.” Revealing what exactly happened, the report stated, “There is an anonymous fan of his who has been sending vulgar messages to Ankita, on Instagram for no rhyme or reason. The concerned troll did not stop when asked to desist after which Ankita finally blocked him.”
When asked about the highly aggressive language, Karan Patel was quoted as saying, “That is the problem. Common people think just because we are actors, they can do what they want and this only encourages them. They forget that at the end of the day, even we are humans first who get hurt. Also, did he think twice before using derogatory language against my loved ones? I don’t care a shit about culture in such a situation and will go to his house to tear him up limb by limb.”
It was in 2018 when Karan Patel had warned his followers on Twitter about an impostor who was asking females for nude photos in the pretext of offering them roles in a bold show with a leading production house. Not just that, the impostor had also guaranteed a meeting with Karan at a cost of Rs 5,000. Karan decided not to spare the imposter and take legal action against him. Speaking to the Bombay Times, Karan Patel had stated on the similar lines, "I recognized that video. I shot for this man a few years ago, as it was his idea to bring in new talent in the industry through his acting institute. I thought it to be a noble idea as that would give aspiring actors a chance to get a foothold in the industry." Karan had also admitted that it was his mistake of not undergoing a thorough check on the man before shooting the video, "I haven't met this impostor in person. It was my biggest mistake to shoot the promotional byte without doing a thorough background check. I want to tell my peers to be careful about such frauds."
Karan Patel had continued, "However, I was shocked to learn that the impostor uploaded the video online and has created several WhatsApp profiles with my picture, giving out the impression that it's me chatting with them. Since then, I have been receiving messages and posts from across the country, informing me about paying to meet me. At first, I thought someone was pulling a prank. When I realized the gravity of this situation, I posted a message to warn my fans about this fraud. What triggered my anger was the fact that he was asking girls to send their nude pictures, promising them roles in a bold show. I can take any bullsh*t, but not this. A woman's integrity can't be harmed and I won't leave him for this. I am in touch with my lawyers for an appropriate legal action against him."
In 2017, Karan Patel’s wife, Ankita Bhargava was targeted by the trolls for having a darker complexion than her husband. Slamming the trolls like a boss, Ankita had then said, “I am not shallow enough to have a complex about my complexion. I am fairer and darker, both at the same time, than most of my friends and colleagues from the industry. As for Karan being fairer, how does that matter. We are not ruled by the British anymore, we are brown, and that’s what we are. Being not so fair by your standards does not make me a lesser person. I am still a decent wife, daughter sister, friend in my opinion and trying to get better with each passing day, learning and growing.” (Also Read: Taimur Ali Khan's Happiness Knows No Bounds As He 'Swings' His Way Into The Weekend In London)
