Since the morning of April 23, 2022, Bollywood actress, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and the popular jewellery brand, Malabar Gold and Diamonds are trending on social media. It so happened that the brand released an ad for the Hindu festival, Akshaya Tritiya, and it featured Kareena. In the ad, the actress was seen wearing an embellished pink lehenga, paired with elaborate diamond jewellery, which included a neckpiece, matching earrings, and a maang teeka. However, it was the absence of a bindi from Kareena's forehead that caught everyone's attention. This lead the netizens to slam the brand and boycott Kareena for their disregard of traditional Indian values and hurting Hindu sentiments.
Netizens took the internet by storm after taking offence to the new Akshaya Trtitya ad, and started trending hashtags like #NoBindiNoBusiness and #BoycottKareena on social media. Apart from lashing out at Malabar jewellers, netizens also protested against Kareena, who despite being married to a Muslim man, featured in an ad for a Hindu festival. Pointing out the importance of sporting a bindi for a married woman in Hindu tradition, netizens expressed rage over the ad.
