Kareena Kapoor’s friendship with her best buddy and filmmaker, Karan Johar is not unknown to anyone. The duo, who are infamously labelled as the gossip partners in Bollywood have shelled out major BFF goals. By being each other’s rock-solid support to becoming one another’s biggest cheerleaders, Bebo and KJo have set Tinseltown bubbling with energy and enthusiasm. However, there was a time when the duo's friendship took to a toss, particularly when Kareena refused to be a part of Karan’s film.
Taking to the discussion portal, Reddit, a user recently dropped a clip of Kareena Kapoor’s old interview with Karan Johar from one of the earlier seasons of the latter’s chat show, Koffee With Karan. The clip featured the moment when Kareena revealed to be losing out on a major time of her friendship with Karan Johar, precisely because she refused to be a part of his film, Kal Ho Naa Ho. For the unversed, Bebo was offered the role of ‘Naina’, that was later portrayed by Preity Zinta. Kareena mentioned how she accepted doing wrong to her best friend, partly because of her greed. She could be heard as saying:

“I don’t know. I guess it was greed, or I don’t know what it is, but it was definitely something that was wrong. And what I really was upset about was that I did wrong to you. By not taking your call, I lost a friendship for more than a year and a half with you. That was it. I don’t care about the role, about the film.”

Well, Kal Ho Naa Ho went on to become no less than an iconic blockbuster film, which people love to re-watch even today. However, after hearing Kareena’s confession of being offered the role first, and the fact that she refused it, created a stir among the netizens. Taking to the comment section of the Reddit thread, they began to express their views on the same. Someone commented, “I thought Preity did perfect and doubt any other actress could've topped that. Karan Johar should be honoured that he had Preity in his film.” Another user wrote, “Preity did a far superior job she was wonderful in it, so glad it was not Kareena.”

This hasn’t been the first time that Kareena Kapoor has missed out on a role from a film, which eventually turned out to be a cult classic for the viewers and at the box office. For the unversed, Bebo also missed out on portraying the character of ‘Parvati’ in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus film, Devdas. However, back in the time, Bebo had openly expressed her dissatisfaction about getting replaced from the film at the last minute, and vowed to never work with Sanjay in the future. In her interview with Filmfare in 2002, Kareena expressed her anger about the same and had said:
“Sanjay tested me for Devdas, gave me a signing amount and then took someone else. That was wrong. It hurt, especially since I was at the start of my career. But it’s okay because the day he dropped me, I signed Subhash ji’s Yaadein. Sanjay hurt me. Even if I have no work, I’ll never work for him.”
