The latest episode of the famous game reality show, Kaun Banega Crorepati 15, is once again in the headlines after the show’s host, Amitabh Bachchan shared an inside scoop about his parents. The iconic actor opened up about his father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan and his mother, Teji Bachchan's marriage. The doting son revealed how his parents were from different castes, and when they got married, they faced a lot of backlash.
Sharing more on his parents’ inter-caste marriage, Amitabh Bachchan revealed that his father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan was from a Hindu family while his mother, Teji Bachchan belonged to a Sikh family. The doting son further revealed that when his father took his mother to Allahabad, he received enormous hate as inter-caste marriage was considered a sin back in those days. He said:
"I am getting a little hesitant to say this but she was also a big fan of my babuji (Harivansh Rai Bachchan). My babuji had done an inter-caste marriage. My mataji (Teji Bachchan) was from a sikh family and when we lived in Allahabad, over there getting married in different caste was called a sin during that time."

Amitabh Bachchan went on to reveal a few more things about his parents’ inter-caste marriage, as he opened up about iconic politician, Sarojini Naidu’s contribution in consoling his father back in those days when he was receiving a lot of backlash for getting married to a woman from Sikh community. The veteran actor revealed that Sarojini Naidu took his father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who was living in Allahabad at that time. Revealing how Sarojini Naidu introduced his father to Jawaharlal Nehru, Big B stated:
"So during that time, people fought against my father when he took my mother to Allahabad. So Sarojini Naidu was the first person who consoled him. He introduced him to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who used to live in Anand Bhavan in Allahabad. I still remember the way she had introduced my father. She said, 'Meet the poet and his poetry'."
For the unversed, legendary poet, Harivansh Rai Bachchan got married to Teji back in 1941. It was an inter-caste marriage, and Teji was just 26 when she tied the knot with Harivansh Rai Bachchan. Before marriage, Teji was a social activist, but after her marriage with the iconic poet, she dedicated her life to their kids as she turned a homemaker. The couple welcomed two children, Amitabh Bachchan on October 11, 1942 and Ajitabh Bachchan on May 18, 1947.

It was on January 24, 2021, when Amitabh Bachchan took to his blog and penned a note on his parents’ 79th wedding anniversary. The doting son shared two unseen pictures along with a heartfelt note. In the first picture, we can take a look at Teji Bachchan, who looked gorgeous and the second one was a beautiful family portrait featuring Amitabh as a kid. Along with the picture, Big B penned a few words in which he shared how his parents’ wedding broke all barriers of caste and creed. An excerpt from the same could be read as:
"The Wedding Anniversary of Ma and Babuji. 24th January 1942 .. a marriage that broke barriers, systems created the acceptance of the name Bachchan, beyond caste and creed."
