Karan Johar is one of those people in the Indian entertainment industry who never shies away from calling a spade a spade. The 51-year-old has lately been using his social media accounts to convey his thoughts on several matters to the public. On May 5, 2024, Karan expressed his disappointment when a comedian poorly mimicked him on national television. Even Ektaa Kapoor came in support of the filmmaker.
Karan penned a note on his Instagram stories, sharing that he was sitting and watching TV with his mom when he suddenly came across a promo for a comedy reality show. He was talking about Sony’s show, Madness Machayenge-India Ko Hasayenge, where the comedian, Kettan Singh portrayed the filmmaker in ‘poor taste’ and hosted ‘Toffee With Churan’. In the promo, the comedian was also seen imitating KJo’s dancing style.

This left Karan highly disappointed, and in his note, the filmmaker mentioned that he expect such behaviour from trolls and faceless people. But he never imagined that someone from the industry would disrespect him, who has been in the business for more than 25 years. Moreover, he also talked about being sad rather than being angry at them. In his words:
“I was sitting and watching television with my mom… and saw a promo of a reality comedy show on a supposedly respectable channel… a comic was mimicking me in exceptionally poor taste… I expect this from trolls and faceless and nameless people, but when your own industry can disrespect someone who has been in the business for over 25 years, it speaks volumes about the times we live in… this doesn’t even anger me it just makes me sad!”
After Karan’s note, the popular producer, Ektaa Kapoor also came in support of him. She called out the ugly sense of humour and shared that this has happened so many times in shows and award functions. Ektaa further said to Karan to ask the comedian to imitate one of his movies or classics. In her words:

Meanwhile, the comedian, Kettan Singh spoke about this whole fiasco to Times Now and even apologised to the filmmaker. He explained that he loved watching Karan on his talk show, Koffee With Karan, and said that he has been a fan of his work. Kettan further added that his intention was not to hurt the filmmaker and he just wanted to entertain his audience. He sought an apology from Karan Johar and said:
“I would like to apologise to Karan (Johar) sir. First of all, whatever impersonation I do is because I love watching Karan Johar on his show, Koffee With Karan. I observe him a lot. I am a fan of his work. I have watched his latest film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani almost 5 to 6 times. My intention was not to hurt him. I just wanted to entertain the audience but if I did something wrong, I would like to say sorry to him.”
