When Kiran Bedi became the first-ever IPS officer, she was posted in Delhi. Kiran's parents moved into the government house allocated to her, along with her younger sisters. Despite staying away, Brij Bedi never divorced Kiran Bedi and maintained a cordial relationship with her. The only reason why the social activist didn’t go ahead with the option of divorce from Kiran was their daughter, Saina Bedi. In the interview, Brij Bedi elaborated on the same and said:

“They (Kiran's parents) wanted a divorce. Even Kiran mentioned it once but I refused saying our achievement is mine. She was my dream. There was a time when she had called me 'her god' in one such interviews. But then things became really bad between us. For our daughter's sake I never thought of a divorce. My' parents too used to insist sometimes but I did not want to get married again."
