Kunal Kamra Eknath Shinde Joke Row: Comedian Releases FIRST Statement Says, 'I Will Not Be Hiding'

Comedian Kunal Kamra got himself landed in a soup when a clip of him surfaced online where he was taking a dig at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde for changing sides. The comedian performed the act at Mumbai's Habitat Studio, where he called the CM a 'gaddar' that triggered Shiv Sena leaders. 11 of them reportedly ransacked the venue where the show was shot. Now, Kunal has released his first statement amid the row, where despite FIR being filed, he said that he is fearless.

Kumal Kamra addresses CM Eknath Shinde and takes a subtle dig

Shiv Sena workers lodged multiple FIRs after the comedian made a parody song, which was set to the tune of Dil Toh Pagal Hai. It referred to Shinde's 2022 defection from Shiv Sena. Kunal began his statement by addressing to the mob that decided Habitat should not stand. He said that an entertainment venue is merely a platform. A space for all sorts of shows. Habitat (or any other venue) is not responsible for his comedy, nor does it have any power or control over what he says or does. Addressing the media and Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde he said:

"To the media faithfully reporting this circus: Remember that press freedom inIndia ranks at 159. What I said is exacrtly what Mr. Ajit Pawar (1st Deputy Cm) said about Mr. Eknath Shinde (2nd Deputy CM) I dont fear this mom and I will not be hiding under my bed, waiting for this to die down. Attacking a venue for a comedian's words is as senseless as overturning a lorry carrying tomatoes, because you didn't like the butter chicken you were served."

Kunal, in his statement also addressed the political leaders threatening him to teach a lesson. He wrote that the right to freedom of speech and expression is not only to be used to fawn over the powerful and the rich, even though today's media would have us believe otherwise. The comedian slammed the inability of the politicians to take a joke at the expense of a powerful public figure does not change the nature of his right.

Kunal Kamra reveals that he is ready to cooperate with the cops

Kamra, who was silent for the longest time, shared that it is not against the law to poke fun at leaders and the circus that is the political system. However, he is still willing to cooperate with the police and courts for any lawful action taken against him. A part of his statement read:

"But will the law be fairly and equally deployed against those who have decided that vandalism is the appropriate response to being offended by a joke? And against the unelected members of the BMC, who have arrived today at Habitat without prior notice and tore the place down with hammers?

Kunal also sarcastically wrote that for his next venue, he will opt for Elphinston Bridge or any other structure in Mumbai that needs speedy demolition. He also shared that those who have been leaking this number and calling him incessantly, he is sure that they may have realised that all unknown calls go to his voicemail, where they will be subjected to the very song they hate.
