Kunal Kemmu discussed movies, family, and other topics in a recent Ring with Filmfare episode. The actor and filmmaker talked candidly about his amusing early encounters with Sharmila Tagore, his wife, Soha Ali Khan's mother. And there's a bathrobe involved.
Kunal Kemmu shared that his first meeting with Sharmila Tagore was significant because he was dating Soha then. He recalled that before this, he had met her on the sets of the film, 99 while shooting in a hotel. He described feeling very awkward during that encounter, as he was in a bathrobe and not dressed appropriately. He remembered greeting her with a nervous "Hello ma'am, how are you?" under those uncomfortable circumstances. In his words:

"That was my first meeting as someone who was dating Soha. Before that, I met her on the sets of 99 while shooting in a hotel. I was in a bathrobe and I was not wearing anything else. Sharmila Tagore was coming, and I was in that costume, and I couldn't change, so I was very awkward that time, meeting her in a costume and saying 'Hello ma'am, how are you?' and all that."

Kunal Kemmu added that the next time he met with Sharmila Tagore, she was looking at a magazine at her house. She greeted him with a 'Hi', to which he responded with a 'Hello'. He remembered feeling nervous as they conversed about her films and where she was from, all while he was drenched in sweat and struggling to maintain eye contact. He joked that it felt like a job interview, wondering if he would get the 'job', and noted that he had never been so nervous on a film set. He said:
"Next time it was in the house, she was looking at a magazine. So she said, "Hi". So I said, "Hello". So what do you do? And the magazine was just sitting there. And I am answering her questions - What films have you done? Where are you from actually? Can I have some water? So for 15 minutes, I haven't gotten any eye contact. And I'm literally sweating and thinking yeh toh job interview jaisa lag raha hai".
Kunal Kemmu recounted that their second eye contact was in his car. He had opened the door for her, prompting her to look at him, as otherwise, the door might close on her. Gradually, he felt that she began to warm up to him. In his words:
"The second time I made eye contact was in my car, and she had to because I opened the car door for her; she had to look at me. Nahi toh aisa na ho ye darwaza band kar dega. And then slowly, you know, she warmed up to me."

"We connected while cooking in London. I love to cook and she loves to cook and she's a great cook. She saw me chopping some onions and she was like, 'What are you making?' I said 'daal'.
