The year 2022 is turning out to be one of the saddest years as we are losing one after another magical people from the film and music industry. Back to back, we had lost Pandit Birju Maharaj, who was a legendary Kathak dancer and a great Bollywood choreographer, the nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar, Bengali singer, Sandhya Mukhopadhyay and veteran musician and singer, Bappi Lahiri.
It was Bappi Lahiri, who had brought disco-pop to India back in the '70s and '80s era. Songs like Yaar Bina Chain Kaha Re, Yaad Aa Raha Hai, Nakaa Bandi, Tamma Tamma Loge, and many more still linger on our minds. The legendary music composer will live through his creation in our hearts forever. For the unversed, as per medical reports, Bappi Lahiri had died of Obstructive Sleep Apnea on February 16, 2022.

However, late Bappi Lahiri's son, Bappa Lahiri, does not believe that his father had died because of breathing issues. In a recent interview with The Times of India, the musician quashed all the medical reports and said his father had died of a heart attack. He shared:
"No, it wasn't a breathing issue. I think his heart just stopped. My sister, brother-in-law and mother rushed him to the hospital. The doctor had been called and he said that he needs to be taken to the hospital. They reached the hospital but he couldn't be revived. I was on the phone all the time."
In the same interview, Bappa mentioned that his late father had spent the entire January in hospital but had wished to go back home. He was discharged from the hospital on February 15, 2022. But once back, he had stopped eating and wasn't feeling well. His health had deteriorated by the evening, and the family had taken him to the hospital. But still, they couldn't save him. Bappa had returned to India from the US to complete the last rites of his father.

Further going in the conversation, Bappa shared that his father, Bappi Lahiri used to sing songs while lying on the hospital bed and enjoyed the music. Talking about the same, he said:
“Oh, yes. And he used to tap at the table near his bed as the songs rolled along. One day, he started singing loudly in the hospital. Mom said 'kya kar rahe ho?'”
As per medical terms, Obstructive Sleep Apnea happens when muscles in the throat and upper airway relax intermittently during sleep and block the airway. It generally occurs in obese people. Bappi Lahiri had OSA since 2021. We hope the family find strength in this tough time!
