Kangana Ranaut has always been open about her opposition to the nepotism culture in Bollywood. She has not only bashed filmmakers and directors for the same but also slammed the actress, actors and their films, whenever they got some recognition in the media. Amidst all, Kangana has majorly slammed the Bhatts and Kapoors, and called Karan Johar the 'flag bearer of nepotism' as according to her, he is the one who has always given several opportunities to the nepo kids. Now, an old video of Mahesh Bhatt talking about Kangana's judgements on nepotism in Bollywood is going viral on social media, and netizens are reacting to it vigorously.
During an old interview with NDTV, Mahesh Bhatt was asked about his take on nepotism in the film line. The interviewer asked him, "You are from the industry, your daughter is doing really well on her own, now they are three independent women who come from the outside and have carved a niche for themselves. What is your take?" To this, Mahesh Bhatt immediately revealed that although he feels Kangana's take on nepotism is undeniable, he can be heard revealing that Alia Bhatt's journey is similar to that of any actress in the industry. In his words:
"See there is no deny, Kangana was right in a way, the film industry world is inward looking. Its like a kind of fortress but to say that every narrative of every achiever is very easy because they take birth in a family which is of a filmmaker in untrue. Like the climb for Alia from Juhu to box-office was as difficult as Kangana's climb, of these girls climb. Just because she came from a privileged environment, infact the odds are against you, the knives are out, because people are too eager to tell you your part and thank god the part may or break people."

Mahesh further added, "Its not with us, its with the people out there. After the first show starts and the images begin to flicker, is the relationship of the screen and the audience. No matter who you think you are." Soon, Vidya Balan, who was also part of the panel of guests on the show, also revealed her thoughts on the concept of nepotism. She said:
"I may not have faced nepotism but I can't take away from what she is saying like our experiences are different. But I have also not wanted to work with the camps that are within the industry. Like there are camps in the industry. People keep on asking me. Yes, there are. But I have never wanted to be part of any camp. I enjoy the fact that I get to work with different people who are offering me with so much. I'am very happy with my career lined up."
However, as soon as Mahesh's video was posted on social media, netizens were irked by his statement, claiming his daughter, Alia Bhatt's journey was similar to any other actress in her field. While one user sarcastically wrote, "No, see, Alia didn’t have a posh driver to take her to the studio offices. Mahesh Dalle and Soni personally had to take her. It’s much difficult than flying in a plane from HP to Mahrashtra", another user penned, " Am I the only one who thinks this Bhatt family is pathetic? I can't stand them even for a second."

Earlier, taking to her IG stories, on July 30, 2023, Kangana Ranaut hinted how Ranbir Kapoor begged her to date him and kept pursuing her. In addition, Kangana claimed that Ranbir had told her about getting a trilogy to date, 'papa ki pari' (hinting at Alia). She added that Ranbir told her that his marriage and even the baby were fake and a trick to promote their movie. An excerpt from her long note can be read as:
"He even said his marriage was fake and baby is a trick of promote the movie .... I was beyond appalled... I still can't believe if anyone can be so morally corrupt, they aren't humans they are demons ...that's why I am determined to destroy them .... Dharma's main purpose is to destroy Adharma .... That's what Shri Krishna said in Geeta.”
