One of the leading actresses of the 90s, Mahima Chaudhry, is often categorised as one of the most underrated actresses of this generation. With movies like Pardes, Daag, Kurukshetra, Dhadkan, Dil Kya Kare, and Lajja in her kitty, she had created a big place in the hearts of the audiences, which is the reason why people are still in love with her. In her recent interview, Mahima opened up about the dark side of the Indian film industry when only virgin actors were preferred in the film industry.

Talking about her personal life, Mahima Chaudhry had gotten married to a Kolkata-based architect, Bobby Mukherjee, on March 19, 2006. The two had gotten married in a hush-hush wedding which was kept under the wraps. In 2007, Mahima had embraced motherhood and had given birth to a baby girl and had named her Ariana. However, soon Bobby and Mahima got separated because of some irreconcilable issues with each other.

In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Mahima Chaudhry opened up about the time in the Indian film industry when the makers used to prefer only virgin actors who hadn't even kissed in their lives. The actress also recalled the factors based on which the producers and people in the industry used to reject actors. Talking about the same, Mahima said, "The minute you started dating someone, people would write you off because they only wanted a virgin who had not kissed. If you were dating someone, it was like, 'Oh! She's dating!'. If you were married, then forget it, you career was over, and if you had a child, it was like absolutely over."

Going in the same interview, when Mahima Chaudhry was asked to reflect on the position of female actors in the industry right now compared to the situation during her time. Answering this, Mahima admitted that the situation is undoubtedly better now as actresses are also ruling the industry on their own. She explained, "I think the industry is getting to a position where female actors are also calling the shots. They getter better parts, better pay, endorsements, they're at a great and much powerful position. They have a longer shelf life than before."

In the same interview, Mahima Chaudhry also revealed that actors used to hide their relationships and marriages after coming into the film industry. To support her statement, Mahima gave the examples of Aamir Khan and Govinda and revealed that they hid their marriages for a long time to keep their stardom intact at that period of time. In her words, "Even when Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak came, we didn't know he was married, same for Govinda. People didn't show their children's photographs or expose them as that would tell their age! All these things have really changed between now."

At the end of the interview, Mahima Chaudhry showed her happiness on seeing the immense progressive changes in the Indian film industry as the makers aren't bothered by an actress' relationship status. The elated actress said, "Earlier, it was either or, but now, you can continue with both. Now, people are accepting women in different kind of roles, even romantic ones post her becoming a mother or wife. Her personal life is celebrated."
