However, the makeup artists are behind the idea of giving lively feelings to several looks of these celebrities that captivate the hearts of the audience. With their expertise, they turn the actresses and actors into the characters that the films or the occasion would require. Recently, Anurag Kashyap talked about the increasing entourage costs in Bollywood, which created a controversy. Amid this, a famous makeup artist of Bollywood revealed his shocking per-day income and even justified the reason for it.
Makeup artist, Shaan Mutthathil worked with actresses like Jacqueline Fernandez, Radhika Merchant, Kanika Kapoor on her big day, and Shraddha Kapoor, among others. Recently, while conversing on Phitte Muh with Sik & Jaz podcast, he said that his income is Rs. 1 lakh per day on a Bollywood film set. When talking about working on film sets, the makeup artist shared that the shoots never end on time, and when one is young, one can work for 14 to 15 hours straight.

Shaan said that he had clearly listed down his demands and mentioned he could give 12 hours and even half an hour extra on a day, but for the same, he would need a one-and-a-half day shift after that. Shaan also stated that if he had to work beyond his shift time, then he would need half an amount extra, along with what he was originally paid. Shann said he would never ask the actresses to sit extra hours on his chair as no one, according to him, is doing 'seva'. He also added that there can always be a chance of replacement while working on the film sets. Shaan can be quoted as saying:
"For shoots, it’s hours. When you’re young, you can do 14 hours or 15 hours. Bollywood shoot or any other shoot, it doesn’t finish (on time). So, I’m very clear, I’ll give half-an-hour extra, but after that it’s one-and-a-half day shift. Whatever you have paid me I need half amount more, and the actresses I work with know me, and they back me up. I give 12 hours plus half-an-hour, but after that, the people who are making us shoot are making money."
Shaan has done makeup and hairstyles on over 1,000 brides by his own estimations. And he talked about his demands for the same. In the podcast, Shaan stated that if he works with the brides, as per the expertise, someone can charge, and now his contract is that he would need one business class ticket and two economy class tickets. Along with this, the makeup artist would need one five-star hotel room and a good hotel for his assistants.

Explaining why his assistants are also expensive, Shaan said that if he would need his kit for work, then his assistants would have to travel by car, which can take a lot of time, which is why it's now a rule to provide him with what he demands. Shaan said:
"I would need one business class ticket, two economy class tickets, one five-star hotel room that is closest to the bride. It’s a rule. Of course, they do say, ‘Even assistants are so expensive?’ If the assistant stays somewhere else, he needs to have a car that he can take anytime to come with my kit. I’m very particular when I do a bride right now, I say one business class, two economy, a good hotel for (my assistants), but for me, the closest five-star hotel. They can put you anywhere they want."
