Mamta Kulkarni has been making headlines since her return to India in December 2024, particularly concerning her decision to join the Kinnar Akhara. She has a tumultuous career as an actress, with success on one hand and controversies on the other. Despite leaving that part of life behind herself two decades ago, Mamta is again involved in a fiasco with the Kinnar Akhara. After the actress joined them as Mahamandaleshwar, a few members of the Akhara were unhappy, and she resigned. But now, after a few days, Mamta is back as the Mahamandaleshwar Of Kinnar Akhara.
Mamta Kulkarni, who has been vocal about her decision to join and leave Kinnar Akhara, once again shared a new video on her Instagram handle. In the video, she revealed that she has been reinstated as the Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhara. It's important to note that just three days ago, the former actress had submitted her resignation from the post. Apart from confirming the news, Mamta also discussed why she returned to her position and revealed:
"Two days ago, some people made false allegations against my guru, Dr. Acharya Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi. In response, I resigned in a moment of emotion. However, my guru did not accept my resignation. The offerings I presented upon becoming a Mahamandaleshwar, including the royal umbrella, staff, and other sacred items, will remain dedicated to the Akhada. I am grateful to my guru for reinstating me. Moving forward, I dedicate my life to Kinnar Akhada and Sanatan Dharma."
As per several media reports, Acharya Mahamandaleshwar, Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi, who earlier appointed Mamta to the position, refused to accept her resignation. Consequently, Mamta has ensured that she will continue to spend her life serving Sanatan Dharma and the Akhara and won't ever join showbiz. However, there has been no reaction from the other members of the Akhara authorities over it.
Mamta Kulkarni and her guru, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, were removed from the Kinnar Akhara by Rishi Ajay Das, who claimed to be the founder of Kinnar Akhara, on January 21, 2025. He cited that the inner conflicts among the Akhara members over the controversial past of Mamta Kulkarni were the reason behind their removal. However, later, when Mamta resigned from her position, she addressed those allegations and said:
"I left Bollywood 25 years ago and disappeared on my own. Who stays so far away from makeup and glamour otherwise? My Guru, Shri Chaitanya Gagangiri Maharaj, was a Siddha Mahapurush. I have done 25 years of penance with him. I don't need to go to Kailsa, Manasarovar, or the Himalayas because all the worlds are already in front of me."
Mamata Kulkarni debuted with Tirangaa in 1992. She went on to work in several popular films like Karan Arjun, Baazi, Krantiveer, Waqt Hamara Hai, Sabse Bada Khiladi, and more. But, her connections to drug cases, conflicts on the set and underworld don, Chhota Rajan in the late 90s affected her reputation. Her last film, Kabhie Tum Kabhie Hum, was released in 2002. After returning to Mumbai two decades later, Mamta revealed that she had taken sanyas at the maha kumbh and performed her own Pind Daan, a Hindu ritual for paying homage to ancestors. Later, Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi announced her as the Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhara.
