Yesteryear actress, Mandakini is one of the popular names in Hindi cinema. Born as Yasmeen Joseph to a British father and Kashmiri mother, Mandakini became a sensation in the 80s. She was cast as lead actress in the 1985 film, Ram Teri Ganga Maili at the mere age of 22. She was discovered by the legendary actor and filmmaker; Raj Kapoor and he was the one who changed her name to Mandakini.
Her debut film opposite Rajiv Kapoor made her an overnight star, but she also stirred a lot of controversy for some of her semi-nude scenes in the film. At a time when shin show was a big deal in Bollywood, Mandakini's rain scene in a white transparent saree, flashing her assets came as a shocker. However, later she quit films and got vanished from the glamour world.

The gorgeous actress recently graced The Kapil Sharma Show along with actress, Sangeeta Bijlani. During the conversation, Mandakini talked about a lot of aspects of her personal life. She recalled a bizarre rumour about her getting shot by her own father and revealed:
“There was a news spread that my father shot me. When I reached the sets everybody came to me asking whether I was okay. I had no clue why they were all so concerned about me and later I came to know about the rumour.”
For the unversed, post leaving the glamour world, Mandakini started following the paths of Dalai Lama and devoted her time to Tibetan Yoga. She went on to marry a former Buddhist monk, Dr Kagyur T. Rinpoche Thakur. Post-marriage, both Mandakini and her husband, opened a Tibetan yoga centre in Mumbai and together run Tibetan Herbal Centre. The couple has a son, Rabbil and a daughter, Rabze Innaya Thakur.

In the same conversation, Mandakini revealed a funny aspect of her married life and revealed how her husband didn’t know Hindi at all when they met. In her words:
“My mother was from Himachal so we used to go there quite often. I never went to the mountains, so there I met my husband and we got married. When we met for the first time he didn’t know Hindi, so I had to tell his mom and then she would translate it for him. By the time we got married, he learnt Hindi.”
