Mandira Bedi is a popular face in the entertainment industry, courtesy of her acting prowess and hosting skills. She is also well-known for her dedication to fitness as her exercise regimen is unbeatable. Apart from being an actress, Mandira also hosted some of the most memorable shows like the ICC Cricket World Cup since 2003. Mandira was married to Raj Kaushal, and is a proud mother of two kids, Veer and Tara. However, her life changed in 2021 when her husband passed away due to a heart attack.
Mandira Bedi gave birth to her son, Veer, in 2011 and adopted a daughter, Tara, in 2020. In a recent interview with the Humans of Bombay, the actress opened up about embracing motherhood for the first time in her life. Mandira revealed that she wasn't connected to her baby when she saw him for the first time. Recalling her feelings back then, the actress said:
“When I first saw him, I was like, ‘What is this pasty little frog? I have to commit myself and lose my independence because of him?’ It was not love at first sight, and I had a lot of postpartum depression as well during that time, so it took me some time to feel love for him.”

Further, Mandira talked about how nobody had prepared her for postpartum depression and shared that she used to cry every time she came back home to her baby. She mentioned that though people often romanticise pregnancy and childbirth, they don't talk about the struggles that come with it. Recalling her struggles with postpartum depression, the actress revealed that the doctors had informed her that it was happening due to her hormones. She added that her late husband was extremely supportive at the time and said:
“Nobody had told me about postpartum depression. I had the baby, and at that point, I was not feeling very connected to him. The moment I would come back home, I would just be crying, and my doctors told me that the hormones are all over the place and it happens.”
Speaking along the same lines, Mandira shared that she had gained 22 kgs during her pregnancy, and she couldn't even exercise. While she did not feel like herself in her post-pregnancy body, she hated the fact that she lost her independence after becoming a mother. Talking about the same, Mandira said:
“The fact that I was so horribly overweight and I couldn’t exercise, and now my independence is gone because I have this little thing that I have to look after. Somewhere, my depression was also connected to the fact that I was not feeling good about myself, my body.”

It was only after forty days of giving birth to her son that Mandira started exercising. It not only improved her physical health but also helped her recover emotionally. Moreover, Mandira also grew a connection with her newborn and realised that being a mother was the best thing that she had ever done in her life. In her words:
“I wanted to be a mother. Once I got used to it and once I felt a connection with Veer, it all changed. Once I became a mom, I thought this is the best thing I have ever done.”
