Meena Kumari was one of the most legendary actresses in the Hindi film industry. She captivated the audience with her brilliant acting mettle, classical dance moves and ethereal beauty, which make cinema lovers go back to her films even today. Despite having strived a considerably short career, Meena Kumari has indeed made a lasting impression in the world of movies. For the unversed, the tragedy queen of the Hindi film industry, Meena was married to Kamal Amrohi for twelve years before separating in 1964.
According to a recent report by Mirchi Plus, a biopic of the legendary actress, Meena Kumari is aslated to be made. The film would be directed by eminent fashion designer, Manish Malhotra and would have Kriti Sanon portraying Meena Kumari on-screen. While the news has definitely set high hopes for the countless fans of Meena Kumari, it seems her step-son, Tajdar Amrohi has a different take on it. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Tajdar shared his dissatisfaction and apprehensions about such a film being made, which could lead to the possibility of tarnishing his and his parent’s image. He mentioned:

“My lawyer asked me has the film even started. I told him no, I have just heard about it. Even big production houses like to be in news. So, he told me that in case they decide to shelve the project in future, it would come across as I am publicity hungry. I am making enemies in vain. I don’t want to do that. People would think I am publicity hungry, but I am not that way. Is this the only couple in Bollywood left to make a film on? With all due respect to Nargis ji, Vyjanthimala ji, Reena Rai, Madhubala, Parveen Babi, Geeta Bali, there are many names. Why aren’t they making films on them? Why are they only behind my parents?”

In the same interview, Tajdar shared that although he does not have a problem against Kriti portraying the character, he still feels that she too, should refrain from being a part of the biopic, so as to preserve the reputation of the late actress.

Apart from being a phenomenal actress, Meena was also a poet under the pseudonym, ‘Naaz’. Meena Kumari fell madly in love with filmmaker, Kamal Amrohi, despite knowing his past marriage and kids. Kamal failed to be a good husband and had a constant surveillance on Meena. She was also a victim of domestic abuse in her marriage.
