Mira Rajput Kapoor Is Proud Of 'Baby' Shahid Kapoor For 'Kabir Singh', Says 'It's His Time To Shine'

Bekhayali main bhi tera hi khayal aaye...” Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer, Kabir Singh is a tale of love and sadness. And Shahid has once again proved that he isn’t afraid to take risks when it comes to the movies he picks. Kabir Singh is an official remake of Telugu blockbuster, Arjun Reddy, and it revolves around an alcoholic surgeon with anger management issues. With his role of an angsty heartbroken lover with a drinking problem, Shahid’s character in Kabir Singh reminds us of Tommy Singh from Udta Punjab. (Also Read: Karan Mehra And Wife, Nisha Rawal Had Gifted Son, Kavish Mehra A Beautiful Car On His 2nd Birthday)

Releasing the teaser of his film, Kabir Singh, in April 2019, Shahid Kapoor had written on his Twitter handle, "I’m not a rebel without a cause. This is ME! #kabirsingh". Soon his wife, Mira Rajput Kapoor took to her Instagram handle and shared her excitement on hubby’s film. She had captioned her post as, ''Boom #whattawowow''. Since the film is out, there have been mixed reviews from the audience, as some criticised it to be violent and for how it portrays women, while for others the movie seemed to have hit the right cord.

In an interview with India Today, when Shahid Kapoor was asked, “What’s the appeal of doing a remake?” he had replied, “I loved his [Vijay Devakonda] performance and I loved how unapologetically honest the original was which is why it became a cult film. The first thing I felt after watching the film was why make such a nice film again? What if you can’t recreate the magic? But my loved ones pushed me towards doing it because they felt that I should not let go of such a good role. My first condition was that I won’t do it if the same filmmaker doesn’t direct it. I don’t think anybody else can understand the character, his angst and the rawness of the film. Luckily he [Sandeep Reddy Vanga] was open to doing it again. It was a big factor to convince me to do the film.”

When asked how he interpreted the character, Shahid Kapoor had said, “My interpretation had to be in collaboration with the filmmaker because he has conceived the film and the character, and has a deep understanding of why Kabir did certain things. He needed to be open to the newness that I would bring to the table and I needed to be careful that I don’t lose out on the fundamentals of the character. It had to be a brave, fearless and responsible collaboration. Kabir Singh has to come alive. The language and cultural differences means there will be differences in both the versions. I have never really run away from challenges. That’s how you push yourself as an actor. The challenge was to retain the emotional traits of the character and rediscover and express them in my own way.”

When asked, “You carry a lot of baggage when you play roles like this. Switching in and out must not have been easy?” Shahid Kapoor had replied, “That was the most challenging thing. When I did Kaminey, Udta Punjab and Haider I used to live on my own. I had the luxury to be a loner as I figured my character’s space. This time I didn’t. It was one of my first thoughts Am I at the right stage to take up a character like this? How will I find the right balance?’ Every day was a challenge because I didn’t want to come home with any baggage of Kabir. I didn’t want my children to experience it.” (Also Read: Dimpy Ganguly Posts A Heartfelt Birthday Wish For Baby Daughter, Reanna As She Turns 3 Years Old)
