Mithun Chakraborty is one of the greatest actors of his generation and is renowned for his dancing style. His 1982 film Disco Dancer cemented his legacy as a unique dancer and cinema icon in Hindi cinema. Not everyone is aware that Mithun Chakraborty won the National Award for Best Actor for his work in Mrinal Sen's art-house film Mrigayaa. It was such an intense and robust performance that Mithun instantly became a star in the film industry.
However, winning the National Award for his debut film greatly changed Mithun Chakraborty, and the youngster became arrogant. In a recent interview with India Today, the iconic actor opened up about the time when he won the National Award for his work in his debut film, Mrigayaa. The actor admitted that he had started acting like legendary Hollywood actor, Al Pacino.
Not just on the sets, but even off the sets, Mithun was carrying an unnecessary attitude and arrogance due to the fact that he won a National Award for his debut film. Mithun Chakraborty further added that once he was working with a producer, and when the latter saw a change in his attitude, he immediately told him to 'get out'. He recalled:
"After Mrigayaa, I got my first National Award. Jo hota hai, I started acting like Al Pacino. Aisa lag raha tha that I am the greatest actor. Mera attitude change ho gaya toh producer ne dekh ke bola 'get out.'"

Further, in the same interview, Mithun Chakraborty was asked why he hasn't penned his biography or allowed someone to bring the struggles of his life in front of the people. In response to this, Mithun Chakraborty shared that his journey to success was too traumatic to inspire youngsters. The cinema icon explained that he went through a lot of heartbreaking things in his life in order to become an actor in Hindi cinema. Mithun Chakraborty revealed that there were times when he slept on footpaths and could not get food. He said:
"Yeh safar bahut katheen tha. Many tell me why I don't make a biography. Main kehta hoon nahi kyunki meri story logo ko inspire nahi karega, unko morally down kar dega. Jo young ladke struggle karte hai unka himmat tod dega. It's so hard, so traumatic, so painful. I came from a blind lane in Kolkata and Bombay was also so hard. Some day I wouldn't get food and I would sometimes sleep on footpaths."
From being the only actor to win a National Award for his debut film to being considered as one of the best 'dancing heroes' in Hindi cinema, Mithun Chakraborty is also only the second actor after Raj Kapoor to have a massive fanbase in Russia. The legendary actor has been all over the news since it was announced that he will receive the prestigious and highest honour in cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, for his incredible contribution to Hindi cinema. In a career spanning almost five decades, he had appeared in over 350 films.
