Mithun Chakraborty is hailed as one of the icons of the film industry. He has made immense contributions to the world of cinema, and has specifically worked in a variety of languages in films. Some of his iconic movies include Agneepath, Disco Dancer, Dance Dance, Jung among many others. For his acting career, he has won three national awards as well as numerous other accolades. He is also equally recognised in the world of politics, and has been elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha. In his personal life, he is married to former actress, Yogeeta Bali.
Mithun Chakraborty is dealing with a tough time in his personal life at the moment. He lost his mother, Shantirani Devi on July 6, 2023. She had been suffering from geriatric issues for quite a long time now, and she succumbed due to the same. The news was confirmed to the media by Mithun’s son, Namashi Chakraborty. In a telephonic interview with Anand Bazaar Online, Namashi mentioned:

“Yes, the news is true. Grandma is no longer with us.”

In one of his earlier interviews with Anand Bazaar Online, Mithun had opened up about his childhood days and recalled the type of upbringing he received. He mentioned that for the longest time, his parents never believed that he had established himself as a film star. He also spoke about how his parents subscribed to an orthodox mentality and led simple lives. In his words:
“My parents never realised that I had finally became a Bollywood star. They never came to terms with the fact that their son is a popular film star, neither were they keen to find out. They were simple, orthodox people who led simple lives. My father was a supervisor at a government telephone exchange office, but he was a happy man with a happy family.”
During his stint in an episode of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs, Mithun Chakraborty had revealed his initial struggling phase in the film industry. He revealed he had received a lot of discrimination due to his dark skin complexion, as a result of which he lost out on a lot of opportunities. Moreover, he also mentioned his past days when he even had to suffer an empty stomach and sleep on the footpath.

Mithun Chakraborty’s journey to reach the top of the ladder in the film industry was not a smooth one. He had to endure a fair share of struggles in order to establish himself in such a competitive world. Speaking about the same in an earlier interview with ETimes, Mithun revealed that he sometimes had faced suicidal thoughts, when at times he realised his inability to reach his goals. In his words:
“Sometimes I used to think I won't be able to achieve my goals, I even thought of committing suicide. I couldn't even return to Kolkata due to some reasons. But my advice is never to think of ending your life without fighting. I am a born fighter and I didn't know how to lose. And, see where I am now."
