One of the leading ladies in the 70s, iconic actress, Moushumi Chatterjee, needs no introduction. There was a time when she was one of the highest-paid actresses in the Hindi cinema. For the younger generation, Moushumi’s beautiful performance in the film, Piku, opposite Deepika Padukone, Irrfan Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, was a specimen of her acting genius. The actress is renowned for her work in Hindi and Bengali cinema. However, it is often stated that she never took her successful career in films seriously. Otherwise, she would have reached even greater heights.
Once in an old interview with Lehren, Moushumi Chatterjee opened up about her acting career. The actress was asked about how people valued her talent so much and thought that she would keep on leading the charts for decades to come. In response to the same, Moushumi shared that she never had any sort of pressure on herself and always did what she liked. However, she admitted that she never took her career and stardom seriously. Despite knowing that if she got pregnant, it would be hard for her to get work in films, she shared:

"I never gave my 100% as an actress. I was never under any pressure because I already had what I wanted. I never valued my career and my stardom."

Further, in the same interview, Moushumi Chatterjee opened up about critically-acclaimed director, Mahesh Bhatt. The actress revealed that there was a time when the filmmaker told her that whenever her career took a step up, she would get pregnant. Moushumi admitted that she gave a savage response to Mahesh as she told him that getting pregnant added colour to her life. Revealing how Mahesh used to say that getting pregnant was an obstacle for her when she was really at the top of her career. Recalling her conversation with the director, Moushumi said:
"Mahesh Bhatt once said that whenever your career goes up, you become pregnant. He said that these are the obstacles in my career. I corrected him and said that they added colors to my life."
In the same interview, Moushumi Chatterjee also revealed that she once walked out of the film, Desh Premi, in which she was working alongside Amitabh Bachchan. Although she didn’t reveal the reason behind it, but admitted that there were no ill feelings between her and Big B. She also recalled the time when Manoj Kumar got extremely upset after she got pregnant during the filming of Roti, Kapda Aur Makaan.

In another interview with the Hindustan Times, Moushumi Chatterjee was asked to reveal the reason why she lost the ambition or drive to achieve more success in her career. In response to the same, Moushumi shared that she had achieved everything in her life at quite an early age. Moushumi revealed that by the time she turned 19, she was already a successful actress in Hindi cinema and was married to her lovely husband, Jayant Mukherjee, had a daughter, Payal Mukherjee, and owned a brand new Mercedes car. The actress admitted that she had no ambition left after getting almost everything at such a young age.
