Nana Patekar and Manisha Koirala’s love affair was one of the most talked about gossips back in the day in Bollywood. Being the most successful actors of their times, their relationship was not smooth, and was instead quite tumultuous, and even ended tragically. For the unversed, Nana and Manisha crossed paths during the shooting of their film, Agni Sakshi in 1996, when they fell in love. However, the duo broke up after Manisha caught Nana red-handed, while cheating on her with other actresses.
In a recent conversation with The Lallantop, Nana Patekar was asked about his views on his ex-ladylove, Manisha Koirala’s blockbuster performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s recent series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. He called her a great actress and made a simple comment about her performance in the series. However, when the actor was asked if he called up Manisha and congratulated her in-person, Nana Patekar revealed he isn’t aware if the actress’ contact number remains the same, as he knew it before. In his words:
“Bohot accha kaam kiya. Phone number woh same nahi hai shayad ab.”

Well, Nana Patekar and Manisha Koirala’s relationship became the talk of the town when the two of them got roped in together for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film, Khamoshi: The Musical. As a result, Nana and Manisha’s breakup also came as a shock to many, since they appeared quite compatible with one another. Back in the days, during an interview with a leading daily, Nana Patekar had shared a rather mixed opinion about his breakup with Manisha Koirala. Instead of being angry or sad, he simply appreciated the actress for her beauty, acting and the kind of person she is. He had mentioned:
“She is the most sensitive actress around. She is like a kasturi hiran, she still needs to realise that she doesn't need to keep pace with anyone. She has it all and that's more than enough. I can barely hold back the tears when I see what she's doing to herself. Maybe I don't have anything to say about her today! A break-up is a very difficult phase. You have to experience it to know the pain. I can't describe the pain I went through. Please, let's not talk about this. I miss Manisha!"
Interestingly, Nana Patekar was still married when he started dating Manisha Koirala. However, despite being married for years and even having a son together, the couple used to live separately. In an earlier interview with TOI, Nana had talked about the kind of equation he shared with his wife and mentioned:
“Nilkanti and I shared numerous years of happiness together. We supported each other through thick and thin. But, over the years, we developed certain irreconcilable differences and grew apart. Today, we continue to be married but stay separately."

The particular reason which caused Nana Patekar and Manisha Koirala to break up was the moment when the latter caught the former cheating on her with actress, Ayesha Jhulka. According to a report by MensXP, Manisha found Nana and Ayesha together in a closed room, and had immediately lost her cool. She even shouted at Ayesha using cuss words to express her angst and shock.
