Only a mother can understand the tiniest problem of her child and she would go to any extent to get a solution for the same. Such is the power of a mother, who not only bears the labour pain to bring in her child into this world but also makes sure of his/her well-being. From imbibing good values to fulfilling the tiniest demands of her kids, a mother’s role in her child’s life is of utmost importance. It doesn’t matter how big one grows, the love a mother has for her children always remains the same. Bollywood’s action hero, Sanjay Dutt shared a similar bond with his late mother and veteran actress, Nargis. Nargis was on top of her career when she had left her superstardom for the sake of her kids. Categorised among one of the top notched actresses of the era, Nargis didn’t thought twice to leave her flourishing career to bring up her kids, Priya, Namrata, and Sanjay. Sanjay was very close to his mother as he was the most pampered kid among his siblings. His mother’s untimely death due to pancreatic cancer was a big shock for Sanjay. Nargis ji passed away just three days before her son’s debut film, Rocky.

In his biography, Sanjay Dutt: The Crazy Untold Story of Bollywood’s Bad Boy written by Yaseer Usman, his sister, Namrata Dutt shared that their mother, Nargis tried to be strict with Sanjay during childhood but would end up succumbing to his demands. She stated, “Mom sometimes got angry with Sanjay. She’d spew expletives like suwar, ullu, gadha and even throw a chappal at him.” Sanjay’s sister, Priya Dutt also recalled one concern her mother had, she recalled an incident where Nargis ji thought her son was gay. Talking about the same, she was quoted, “Once I heard Mom say to a friend, “Why is Sanjay’s room always locked when his friends are there? What is the big deal? I hope he’s not gay.”
Nargis ji’s death had created a void in Sanjay’s life leaving him all alone. He often shares throwback pictures with his mother giving his fans a glimpse of how much he misses her presence. On June 1, 2019, on the occasion of Nargis ji’s birthday, Sanjay had taken to his Instagram handle and had shared a monochrome picture with her, He had captioned the picture as “Memories never fade! In a 2018 interview with India Today, Sanjay had talked about his mother, and had shared, " The most important thing is to be a good human being. Everything else comes after that. I learned from both my father and mother. I'm passing on to my kids. I hope my wife doesn't pamper my children the way my mother did me. My wife tells me if the kids don't hate the parents when they are growing up, there is something wrong in their parenting. I am tough to my children when I want to be tough."

In an interview with the HT brunch, Sanjay Dutt had shared that he wanted to be a strict father when his wife, Manyata Dutt was pregnant but when he saw his kids, he realised he can never be that. The actor loves spoiling them and in the same interview, he had shared, "When Manyata was pregnant, I always thought I would be a damn strict dad. But with them, I just can’t be that! Although I do spoil them a bit, I make sure that when Manyata is scolding them, I don’t become the peace broker. I don’t interfere. It is wrong to play good cop/bad cop.
