Nawazuddin Siddiqui is one of the most talented and highly versatile actors in Bollywood at the moment. Time and again, he has proven his mettle in the craft with some of his mind-blowing performances and challenging roles. Some of Nawaz’s best remembered projects include Gangs Of Wasseypur, Raman Raghav 2.0, Kahaani, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Manto, Raat Akeli Hai and others. While Nawaz has reached the heights of success in his career, initially, his life hadn’t been as smooth sailing as now. And recently, he talked about the same.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been one such actor who has faced quite a lot of discrimination and prejudice before making it big in Bollywood. From being marked out due to his dark skin tone to earning a livelihood with his job of a watchman, the actor has surpassed several hurdles. Recently, in an interaction with Shubhankar Mishra, Nawazuddin clarified that his first job as a watchman didn’t mean that he belonged to a poor family. He mentioned:
“Meri shakal soorat aisi thi, main gareeb toh nahi tha.”

Continuing with his line of thought, Nawazuddin then narrated why he chose to work as a watchman early on in his life, despite the fact that he had a financially stable family to back him. The actor revealed that at the very core, he didn’t wish to take money from his family, since they had to manage their lives with a limited income. Moreover, Nawazuddin added that while his parents were more than ready to lend some money to him, he didn’t feel quite up to it, and thereby burden them. In his words:
“That’s because I would not take money from home. There was money at home always, thoda bohot paisa tha…but I didn’t want to take money from my family because I was doing a job of my choice without even telling them. My parents were always ready to give me money, they’d say, ‘kuch problem ho toh le le. You aren’t asking for any money and we don’t even know what you are doing.”
In an earlier interview with The Indian Express, Nawazuddin Siddiqui had talked about his unconventional choice of doing smaller films, despite the fact that he is already quite established in the film industry and has been a part of major box-office hits. However, on the contrary, Nawaz mentioned how he feels more relatable to the makers of such small films, as they too come from humble beginnings, just like him.

Previously, during a conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Nawazuddin Siddiqui opened about how he used to feel quite insecure about his dark skin tone, early on in his life. He mentioned accepting himself to be not good-looking, in comparison with countless other actors in the business. He added:
“I was insecure in my early days because of the colour of my skin. I used to apply a lot of creams but nothing changed. Later, I realised it is what it is. I believed for a long time that I am not a good looking guy. But when I went out then I realised that I am okay, my face is fine. It is very important to be confident about the way you look. The insecurity that comes in usually comes in from other people.”
