A. R. Murugadoss’ 2005 Tamil action thriller, Ghajini, starred Asin, Suriya, and Nayanthara. It was a huge success at the box office and was later remade in Hindi, starring Aamir Khan. While Asin and Pradeep Rawat played their roles in the Hindi remake as well, Nayanthara’s role as 'Chitra' was recast and was played by the late actress, Jiah Khan.
Nayanthara, lovingly called as the Lady Superstar, has come a long way in her career. With her recently released documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale, the actress shared about the ups and downs she has faced during her initial years. The makers of the documentary recently shared a video clip on Instagram in which the actress was seen talking about the lowest point in her career. She shared that she was working on the 2005 Tamil film, Ghajini when she was mercilessly criticised. She recalled the cruel, fat-shaming comments that had surfaced and how greatly they affected her. Talking about the same, she shared:

"The lowest point was the film Ghajini. There were days when I used to see all the comments, and people were like, 'Why is she even acting? Why is she even there in the film? She’s so fat.'"
Nayanthara further opened up about how unfair those comments were. She added that while she doesn’t mind being critiqued for her performance, the fat-shaming comments were completely uncalled for. She further shared that she was wearing and doing what her director asked her, as she had no say in it because she was a newcomer. In her words:
"You can’t say such things. You can talk about the performance part of it. Maybe, I was not good. But I was doing exactly what my director told me to do. And I was wearing exactly what he told me to wear. I was a newcomer so I never had a say in it."
Nayanthara was then seen talking about her bikini appearance in Vishnuvardhan’s 2007 action-thriller film, Billa. She recalled the drama that erupted because of that one specific scene. Nayanthara shared that she didn't do the scene because she had a point to prove but because her director had asked her to. She shared:
"The whole drama was about the bikini scene that I did, which was an issue for everyone. But I thought..that’s how everything changes, right? I did it not because I wanted to prove a point, I did it because my director told me that’s the scene. It was necessary, so I did it. And I think it kind of worked for me."
It was reported that Dhanush, who produced the film, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, starring Nayanthara, refused to sign the no objection certificate required for them to use the material in their upcoming Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale. The actor-producer, Dhanush then sued Nayanthara for using a three-second BTS clip from the movie in her documentary, which led to the actress posting a three-page note bashing the former.
