Nayanthara is hailed as the Lady Superstar, and she certainly lives up to it. With some of the blockbuster films to her credit, Nayanthara is the highest-paid actress in the South Indian film industry. Born a Christian, Nayanthara changed her religion and converted to Hinduism in 2011. Just like her professional life, Nayanthara’s personal life has also gained a lot of attention.
Nayanthara has often been the subject of multiple controversies. From her romantic linkups with some of the biggest stars of the South to embracing parenthood via surrogacy, a lot of questions have been raised about Nayan’s life. After many heartbreaks, Nayanthara found love in the arms of filmmaker, Vignesh Shivan.
The duo met in 2015 while filming Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. They gradually fell in love and, after years of secretly dating, tied the knot in June 2022. Though the couple kept their romance a secret from the media, they never missed a chance to drop subtle hints. Something similar happened when Nayanthara graced an award function to accept an award.
It so happened that Nayanthara won an award for Best Actress for her film, Nan Rowdy Dhaan at a prestigious event. However, an unexpected event took place when Nayan went up to the stage and refused to accept the award presented to her by superstar, Allu Arjun. Instead, she requested to get the award from the film’s director and her then-boyfriend, Vignesh Shivan. Voicing her request, Nayan said:
“If you don’t mind, I would like to receive this award from the director of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.”
It was definitely an awkward moment for Allu Arjun, but Vignesh, too, wasn’t expecting the same. Surprised by Nayan’s gesture, Vignesh walked up to the stage and took the award from Allu and presented it to Nayan.

This is not the first time that Nayan or Vignesh dropped hints about their relationship. Much before confirming that they were dating, Vignesh took to his IG handle and posted a picture of Nayanthara’s hand placed on his chest. In the picture, Nayanthara was seen wearing a ring, which looked like a wedding ring. He captioned the picture in Tamil, which could be read as “Viralodu uyir kooda korthu”, i.e., Tied my lifeline to my fingers.
Later, in a Tamil talk show hosted by Divya Dharshini, Nayanthara confirmed getting engaged to Vignesh Shivan. When asked about the ring she had flaunted in one of her photos on social media, the actress replied:
"It was my engagement ring. We are private people so we didn't want to have a grand ceremony. When we decide to get married, we will definitely inform our fans. Our engagement happened in the presence of our immediate family members. We haven't decided on our wedding yet."
