Neena Gupta reveals true love only exists between a child and a parent

In an interaction with Ranveer Allahbadia on his podcast, Neena Gupta talked about the difference between love and lust which she understands. She elaborated on how any relationship starts with lust, while love is not necessary. On the other hand, when it comes to one’s relationship with a child, it is something which cannot be divorced or called off. In her words:

“Every romantic relationship begins with lust, this much is true. You are attracted to somebody because of their job, their physique, their mind. And then it is lust, because biologically, it is bound to happen. And then you become friends, and then when you live together and get get married, you care about each other. You can call it love. You can’t divorce your child, can you? Wow, I’ve said such a smart thing. You can’t divorce your child.”

Neena Gupta shares how she was brought up in a way to only satisfy her husband’s desires and forget her own happiness

In the same interaction, Neena revealed how she has been raised in a generation where women are trained to satisfy the desires of their husbands and make them happy, while forgetting their own share of happiness. Adding how there was never a scope of romance, the actress revealed:

“My generation didn’t have much of a need for sex. It was like a job, to satisfy your husband. Nobody told us to prioritise our own happiness… It was very difficult in my time. You had to make him happy. There was no romance. Women wanted romance, but they weren’t told that they could ask for it. They derived pleasure from their children, and stopped looking after themselves, and the cycle continued.”

When Neena talked about her mother’s inhibitions about her to join films

During a panel discussion on the Prithvi Film Festival, Neena Gupta recollected the moment in the past, and narrated how her mother was apprehensive about her joining Hindi cinema. She revealed that her mother used to look down upon Bollywood, and preferred English films. However, Neena mentioned that since she herself was quite sure about it, she didn’t falter back on her steps.

In a previous interaction with The Indian Express, Neena Gupta recalled her childhood and opened up about being raised by her extremely strict mother. Neena narrated how the latter never informed her of things like sex and periods and also mentioned how her mother even made her warn her about roaming with her female friends.
