Bollywood's celebrity couple, Neetu Kapoor and late Rishi Kapoor got married in 1980. The duo is blessed with two kids, a daughter, Riddhima Kapoor, and a son, Ranbir Kapoor. While Ranbir followed in his parent's footsteps and joined acting, Riddhima went on to become a jewellery designer. While everyone thought that Rishi and Neetu were in a happy marriage, time and again, the latter hinted at troubles in their paradise.
Once, in an interview with Annu Kapoor on his radio show, Suhaana Safar, Neetu Kapoor revealed that her first meeting with her husband, Rishi Kapoor was horrible. Neetu and Rishi have worked together in many films such as Amar Akbar Anthony, Khel Khel Mein and Kabhi Kabhie. Recalling her first meeting with Rishi, Neetu Kapoor shared that the actor was a brat who used to bully everyone on the sets and added:
"I had a horrible first meeting with Rishi Kapoor. He had a habit of bullying, so he would comment on my make-up and clothes, and I'd feel so angry. He was actually a brat who would bully everyone and I was very young at that time. I used to be furious with him. After Bobby became a superhit, Dimple Kapadia got married and Rishi was left with no other heroine because everyone used to look older than him. I was the only young actress around and by default, after Rickshawala, all his movies started coming to me."

In the same conversation, Neetu Kapoor also revealed that she dated Rishi Kapoor for three years before they got married. When she was asked about the moment that made her realise that she wanted to spend her life with Rishi, she said that she didn't exactly remember. However, she added that she had signed a lot of movies back when she started dating Rishi and said:
"I don't remember the exact moment. But I had signed a lot of movies. I was starting to gain confidence. My mother was very protective of me and used to send my cousin Lovely on my dinner dates with Rishi. I was very young, and I had never really been on a date before. This went on for three years, after which I signed "Naseeb', 'Shaan' and another four or five big-budget movies."
Neetu Kapoor also recalled that during one dinner date, Rishi Kapoor asked her why she had signed many big-budget films and that if she had any plans to get married. Reacting to the same, Neetu mentioned that there has to be a guy for her to get married, as she had no idea that the actor was hinting at their marriage. In her words:
"Then Rishiji asked, 'You are signing so many movies, don't you want to get married?' He was thinking about it, I had no idea. He had never said that he wanted to get married. We were just dating. So I said, 'There has to be a boy to get married to. Rishiji said, 'So who am I?'"

Later, when Neetu Kapoor told her mother about her plans to get married to Rishi, the latter was very happy. Soon, their wedding was arranged, and Neetu had to return the signing amounts of all the movies she had signed. She also gave notice to producers to complete her shooting schedule well in advance and worked very hard for a year. Stating how Rishi asked her to finish every project and start a family, Neetu said:
"I returned the signing amounts of all the movies I had signed, and then gave notice to everyone asking them to finish all pending movies. I had worked so hard in that one year, you can't even imagine. And then my husband told me to finish everything, so we could eventually start a family. It wasn't that women couldn't work after marriage but I was tired working for 15 years continuously. I wanted a simple life."
Meanwhile, during another interaction with a leading media portal, Neetu Kapoor opened up about her love story with Rishi Kapoor and revealed that she had initially said 'No' to him. However, the actor swayed her with his romantic gestures and moulded her young mind. Calling him a very difficult man, Neetu added that she used to run whenever he called her name. Revealing how things changed over the years, Neetu said:
“I first said no, but he wooed me so much, with flowers, long letters and suitcases of gifts. I was swayed. When we dated, he took me for dinner, and I didn’t know how to drink wine. He is actually a very difficult man; he was lucky he met me when I was so young because he moulded me. I met him when I was 14, we dated when I was about 17, and I was married at 21. I was so naive. People used to call me his punching bag. If he yelled, ‘Neetu!’ I would leave my food and run. His family used to wonder what I was doing. Now I ask him to wait when he yells."
For the unversed, it was on April 30, 2020, when Rishi Kapoor breathed his last and left for the heavenly abode at the age of 68.
