What world is this where everyone is judged and called names for their every action? Either you do good or bad, people will find ways to demean you. If you are thin, they will skinny shame you and if you are chubby, they will fat-shame you. If you try to do good to people, you are trolled for being ‘mahaan’ and if you do bad, you are trolled for being ‘unreal’. This world is truly fake with some unrealistic standards. Imagine, a mother, who has just given birth to a baby is trolled for the weight gain due to pregnancy and if she loses her post-pregnancy weight, she is trolled even then. Neha Dhupia has now shared how she was fat-shamed post her pregnancy and how she used the lockdown to deal with it. It was on May 10, 2018, when Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi’s low-key Anand Karaj wedding pictures had broken the internet and had come as a sweet surprise. It was speculated that the couple was pregnant when they had tied the knot, and after 6 months of their wedding, Neha and Angad had welcomed a little doll into their lives, whom they have named Mehr Dhupia Bedi. Two days after Mehr's birth, Angad and Neha had posted the first glimpse of their baby girl introducing her to the world. The baby girl has turned two now, but we are sure, the fat-shaming incidents must be traumatising her mother for all these years.
Femina Miss India 2002, Neha Dhupia is an owner of good genes and fit body, however, it is natural for every woman to gain some weight post-delivering their child. Neha too had faced postpartum changes as she had gained approximately 25 Kgs. Now, the actress has recalled being trolled and fat-shammed and also how some people had predicted that her career will come to a halt. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Neha shared how she had gained 23-25 kilos and was in public eyes. She said, “You have this beautiful life that you are carrying inside you and suddenly, life is outside, you feel weird when you see yourself. Being in the public eye, everyone is not fortunate enough that we go through a pregnancy where they don’t put on weight. I put on 23-25 kilos.”
She further shared that people had started fat-shaming her and had said that her “career and life have come to a halt.” Rather than giving in to the trolling, Neha shared that she decided to keep her calm and let the post-pregnancy weight go gradually. Sharing that she took the eight months of the lockdown to get back to shape and lost 21 kilos, she said, “During the lockdown, one of the things that I did was not worry about what people said about me but I took those eight months to lose 21 kilos.” (Recommended Read: Soha Ali Khan Showers Her Little Princess, Inaaya Naumi Kemmu With Lots Of Kisses)
Earlier in an interview with Pinkvilla, Neha had opened up about facing body image issues. During the interview, Neha had also stated that she had felt a bit surprised when a female journalist had commented on her postpartum weight. While talking about facing body image issues, she had quoted, “I did not have insecurity when I was pregnant. I started facing body image issue was after I gave birth. I am not saying that people need to lose weight, being perfect is everyone's own version. But what happens mentally is that everything acts up together. I remember I was trolled very badly where a female journalist wrote something on my weight, and I wrote back. It is not fair to trouble a new mum over her body weight."
