The debate on nepotism has often ruled the headlines, and every time a star kid makes his/her acting debut, there are high expectations set for them. Bets are placed, and hopes are raised on their debut films. Some do justice to their lineage; some find the path difficult and fail to impress the audience as their star parents did.
It is rather unfair to put so much pressure on a star kid and expect them to achieve the same glory as their celeb parents. When star kids are leading the spotlight much before their acting debut, there are a few outsiders who create a storm with their acting chops and impressive talents. They not only won the hearts of millions but also struck a chord with the audience and became national crushes. Let us take a look at some popular names in recent times that have been garnering a lot of attention.

Sparsh Shrivastava has been in the entertainment world for a long time. He began his career as a child actor and was seen in shows like Ballika Vadhu, Fear Files, and Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The actor entered the OTT world with the show, Jamtara-Sabka Number Ayega. His performance in Jamtara impressed Aamir Khan, and he reached out to him for a role in Kiran Rao’s directorial venture, Laapataa Ladies.
Sparsh Shrivastava auditioned for his role in Laapataa Ladies and was selected for the role of 'Deepak’. His performance in the film was so pure that Aamir Khan was shocked and could not stop heaping praises on him.

Nitanshi Goel became an overnight star after she portrayed the role of ‘Phool’ in Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies. Nitanshi started her career as a child model, and her acting stint began at the age of 9. She acted in TV shows like Naagarjuna: Ek Yoddha, Karmaphal Daata Shani, Ishqbaaz, Daayan, Peshwa Bajirao, and many more. Apart from TV shows, Nitanshi was also seen in films like M.S. Nitanshi put a lot of effort into getting into the skin of ‘Phool Kumari’ in Laapata Ladies. The innocence portrayed by the actress in the film welled many eyes. People couldn’t believe that she could do so much justice to a character at the mere age of 16.
When Pratibha’s friends in school teased her by calling her Preity Zinta, she decided to become a star like her. Hailing from a small village in Shimla, Pratibha struggled hard to grab an opportunity in the entertainment world. She left her hometown and came to Mumbai, and after a lot of struggles, she bagged her first television show, Qurbaan Hua.

Taha Shah became every woman’s crush as he portrayed the charismatic ‘Tajdar Baloch’ in Heeramandi. Accomplishing every nuance of a Pathaan, Taha Shah made the audience fall in love with his character in the series. Talking about Taha’s professional journey, he began his acting career with an anti-hero role in Luv Ka The End by Y-Films in 2011 and was later seen in films like Gippi, Barkhaa, Baar Baar Dekho, and Ranchi Diaries.
In Heeramandi, Taha played Alamzeb’s love interest. At the trailer’s launch, Taha Shah revealed that he was cast for a three-day part, which was later extended.
As Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan starrer spine-chilling horror film, Shaitaan hit the theatres, the one name that swept everyone off their feet was Janki Bodiwala. The actress played the role of Ajay’s hypnotised daughter, 'Janhvi', and her intriguing performance was hailed as terrific. Janki began her acting career at the age of 20 with the Gujarati film, Chhello Divas, which was followed by many Gujarati films. Janaki’s Bollywood debut, Shaitaan has got her a big break in Hindi cinema.
Triptii Dimri became the national crush after portraying the role of 'Zoya' (bhabhi number 2) in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s much-talked-about film, Animal. She not only stole the limelight from the lead actress of the film, Rashmika Mandanna but also left an indelible mark with her acting chops.
Triptii ventured into films in 2017 with the film, Poster Boys and followed up with a role in the film Laila Majnu. Her digital hits, Bulbbul and Qala, made her one of the most promising actresses. After the release of Animal, IMDb released a list of 'Popular Indian Celebrities', and Triptii topped the list.
Vikrant Massey’s 12th Fail got the actor a lot of applause from critics as well as fans. Actress, Medha Shankar, who played Vikrant’s love interest, ‘Shraddha Joshi’ in the film, was equally hailed for her poise and charm in the film. Medha began her career in 2019 with the British television show, Beecham House. In 2021, she made her Hindi debut with Shaadisthaan, a teen musical film. In 12th Fail, Medha essayed the role of IRS officer, 'Shraddha Joshi', and left everyone mesmerised by her beauty and effortless acting.
Rohit Suresh Saraf entered Bollywood by playing Alia Bhatt’s brother in the film, Dear Zindagi in 2016. Without any filmy roots, Rohit has been trying to carve his own path. Be it Ishaan Chaudhary from The Sky Is Pink, Rahul Avasthi from Ludo or Rishi Singh Shekhawat from Mismatched, Rohit, at the age of 24, is an absolute delight to watch on-screen. The handsome actor is all set to star in the romantic comedy, Ishq Vishk Rebound.
Jibraan Khan is a popular face as he played the role of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s son, ‘Krish Raichand’ in the film, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Jibraan Khan is the son of iconic actor, Feroz Khan, who portrayed the character of 'Arjun' in BR Chopra's Mahabharat. Jibraan Khan has worked in a series of films like Rishtey, Bade Dilwala, and Kyo Kii... Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta.
He also appeared in the iconic religious television show, Vishnu Puran. The handsome actor is all set to make his full-fledged acting debut in Ishq Vishk Rebound.
Another actress who made it to the list of outsiders is actress Naila Grewal. The talented Delhi-based Naila came to Mumbai to carve her name in the glamour world. She began her acting career by starring in Imtiaz Ali’s film, Tamasha in a supporting role. Despite a splendid cast, Naila grabbed the attention of the audience. She went on to star in films like Bareilly Ki Barfi, Thappad and a few others. She was last seen in the web series, Maamla Legal Hai.
While star kids struggled hard to make a mark in the entertainment world, these outsiders nailed it with their talent. They carved their own destiny without a godfather and gained the tag of mass entertainers.
