Nita Ambani, an epitome of grace and beauty is not just a successful entrepreneur. She is also a loving wife, caring daughter-in-law, hands-on mother and a doting grandmother. Be it chairing her husband, Mukesh Ambani’s business, joining her son, Anant Ambani in his weight-loss journey, planning grand weddings of her kids, deep involvement in social work, Nita Ambani has always been a one-woman army.
Nita Dalal was just 20 when she got married to Mukesh Ambani. Do you know that Mukesh had proposed to Nita in a filmy way? Yes, Mukesh had popped the question to Nita when they were driving on a busy Peddar Road. Nita had happily said ‘yes’ but with a condition. Her condition was to continue her work post marriage and Mukesh had no qualms about it.

Born in a middle-class Gujarati family in Mumbai, Nita completed her bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics. Nita had a keen interest in Bharatanatyam and started learning the dance form from an early age and became a professional Bharatanatyam dancer. After completing her graduation, Nita became a school teacher. It was during one of her dance performances, when Dhirubhai Ambani saw her and thought of asking Nita’s hand for his elder son, Mukesh. And at that moment, Nita laid her condition to let her work post-marriage, which the Ambanis agreed to.
Post her wedding with Mukesh Ambani, Nita Ambani taught in a school called St. Flower Nursery, where she received Rs. 800 per month as salary. In a throwback interview with Simi Garewal, Nita recalled people’s reaction to her salary and shared that they laughed at her, however, Nita was satisfied with her work.

In the same interview, Mukesh Ambani chipped in and said that Nita would give her salary to him, and the money was used to pay for dinner at home.
After a few years, Nita Ambani joined the family business along with her husband, Mukesh Ambani. Today, she is the Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, Dhirubhai Ambani International School, owner of Mumbai Indians (Indian Premier League Cricket Team), and also a non-executive director of Reliance Industries.
Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani have raised their children with a strong value system, as for them, power is a responsibility. One of the major reasons for the Ambanis' success is the fact that they have not forgotten their roots. This can be easily deciphered from Nita Ambani’s statement in her throwback iDiva interview, where she had said:
"Wealth and power don’t go together. Power cannot be brokered. To me, power is responsibility. And I derive it from my family, my work, my passion and my very middle-class values."
