Padmini Kolhapure was born on November 1, 1965, in a Maharashtrian family. She had made her debut as a child artist at the age of 10 with the film, Ishq Ishq Ishq. She had won her first Filmfare award for the Best Supporting Actress in the film, Insaaf Ka Tarazu (1980). However, not many people know that at the age of 21, she had ran away to get married to the producer, Pradeep Sharma.
It was in 1980, when Prince Charles had visited India and was greeted by Padmini Kolhapure. However, the short meeting was turned into headlines when Padmini had kissed him on the cheeks. During the welcoming ceremony, while putting a garland around his neck, Padmini had given a peck on his cheeks. The little kiss had created a buzz in the media and became the headlines of every leading newspaper.

In an interview with The Times of India, Padmini had opened up on the kiss moment. She had also revealed that when she had visited London, the immigration officer had recognised her and had asked her you are the same girl, who had kissed Prince Charles. The actress had shared:
"He was visiting Mumbai and I don’t know what he thought that he wanted to see a shoot. We were shooting for Ahista Ahista at Rajkamal Studios. Shashikalaji did his Indian aarti and I just greeted him with a peck on his cheek. But, in those days, it became a big thing. I remember I went to London for a holiday and this British immigration officer asked me, ‘Are you the same person who kissed Prince Charles?’ I was left embarrassed."
In 1986, Padmini Kolhapure had met Pradeep Sharma while shooting for his film, Aisa Pyaar Kahan. The actress was playing the lead role opposite veteran actor, Mithun Chakraborty. However, her family was never supportive of her love marriage. In an interview with the Filmfare, Padmini had revealed that her parents didn't even let her open her hair and thinking about love marriage was out of the question.
Padmini Kolhapure had no option than to run away and be with the man she loves as her parents were not supportive of their union. However, her elder sister, Shivangi Kapoor and her brother-in-law, Shakti Kapoor were always in favour of her marriage with Pradeep Sharma. In fact, Shakti Kapoor had helped her in getting married. In an interview with the Filmfare, Padmini had talked about her marriage and had said:
"Shivangi and Shakti were totally supportive when I got married. We got married (in 1986) in producer Ashok Thakeria’s house (ex-husband of good friend Poonam Dhillon). Shivangi was pregnant and was advised bed rest, so she wasn’t part of the wedding. Yes, my parents were upset but they eventually reconciled. I began living with them after my son Priyank was born. I’m glad my son grew up with those sanskars."
However, Padmini feels that things would have been different if she would have waited for her parents' approval. In the same interview, the actress had further expressed that the biggest regret of her life is to hurt her parents by running away with the man of her dreams.
Padmini Kolhapure and Pradeep Sharma were blessed with a son on February 5, 1990. He is an assistant director. On February 4, 2021, Priyank had tied the knot with the love of his life, Shaza Morani in a court marriage. However, the couple had grand pre-wedding celebrations in the Maldives.
Padmini Kolhapure is one of the richest actresses of her time. From a young age, she has been in the industry of showbiz. She had also sung in films like Dushman Dost and Yaadon Ki Baaraat. Her net worth according to a report in AllFamousBirthday.com is approximately dollar 1.5 million.
