The 2024 Summer Olympics kick-started in Paris on July 26, 2024, and once again, Indian athletes are all set to make their mark on the world’s biggest sporting event. India has been competing in every single edition of the Summer Olympics since 1920. Talking about India’s performance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, we finished the event at 48th place with one gold, two silver, and four bronze medals. From Neeraj Chopra winning India’s first gold medal at the men’s javelin throw event to the Indian hockey team clinching the bronze medal, it was a memorable tournament for India.
Once again, Indian athletes are pumped up to showcase their hunger, power, and resilience against the world’s best players at this year's Olympics in Paris. India has sent 117 athletes to Paris, who are aiming to better the country’s medal tally at the Paris Olympics 2024. Although all 117 athletes are in good shape, we are hoping that all of them will win medals. However, there are some key players who are undoubtedly India’s major medal hopes at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In terms of India’s chances to win medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics, there are a series of key players in different contingents. Some of the Indian athletes who are tipped as India’s best chance to get a medal at the event include Neeraj Chopra (Men’s Javelin Throw), Nikhat Zareen (Boxing), Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty (Badminton), PV Sindhu (Badminton), Antim Panghal (Wrestling), Aman Sehrawat (Wrestling), Sift Kaur Samra (Shooting), Manu Bhaker (Shooting), Tarundeep Rai, Dheeraj Bommadevara, Pravin Jadhav (Archery), and the national Men’s Hockey Team.
For the uninitiated, 117 Indian athletes will be competing in 69 different events, 70 of which are male and 47 female. Another astonishing fact about Indian athletes competing at the Paris Olympics is that the youngest athlete this year is a swimmer named Dhinidhi Desinghu from Karnataka. There’s no denying that Indians are super-excited to see how the 117 athletes are going to perform. Indian javelin thrower, Neeraj Chopra is one of India’s biggest hopes to clinch a medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. However, not everyone is aware of the fact that the Indian ministry has spent Rs. 5.72 crore on his training. The athlete trains at SAI NSNIS Patiala/Europe, which is one of the reasons behind his impressive work rate and technique. Neeraj, as an individual, got the highest investment from the ministry. Badminton players, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty got the biggest investment of Rs. 5.62 crore on a duo. Satwiksairaj and Chirag's training base is at Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy, Hyderabad, Telangana.
The men’s national hockey team has hardly performed below expectations. Time and again, we have seen them making their mark at different events. As per multiple reports, the ministry has invested a whopping sum of Rs. 41.81 crore in the training of the national team. For the uninitiated, the Men’s national hockey team ended India’s 41-year drought when they finally won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
All eyes will be on Vinesh Phogat once again, as she is currently going through a wonderful form. Paris Olympics 2024 will be Vinesh Phogat’s third Olympics. She is considered as one of the most successful woman wrestlers in India’s history as she has won three World Championship Medals. Talking about the money invested in Vinesh’s trianing, it is around the estimated sum of Rs. 70.45 lakh. Apart from Vinesh, three promising wrestlers are participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics, including Antim Panghal (Rs. 66.55 lakh), Reetika Hooda (Rs. 38.05 lakh), and Aman Sehrawat (Rs. 56.50 lakh).

Another major star, who will be under constant spotlight at the Paris 2024 Olympics is ace badminton player, PV Sindhu. For the uninitiated, she won a silver medal at the Rio Olympics 2016 and clinched a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She will be aiming for the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, which is the only missing medal in her collection. The money spent on PV Sindhu’s training is around the whopping sum of Rs. 3.13 crore.

Despite being 44, tennis star, Rohan Bopanna is showing no signs of slowing down. Earlier this year, he became only the fourth Indian to become double ‘World No. 1,’ after Mahesh Bhupathi, Leander Paes, and Sania Mirza. Indian ministry has spent a total of Rs. 1.56 crore on Rohan Bopanna. Talking about the youngest Indian at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Dhinidhi Desinghu is just 14 and is super-excited to create history. The Indian ministry has spent Rs. 10.87 lakh on the youngster, who has the potential to clinch a medal.
