Prateik Babbar is one of the most prominent stars of his generation in Bollywood. Son of actors, Raj Babbar and late Smita Patil, he has carved his place in the industry with his slightly altered choice of films. For the unversed, Prateik made his debut with the 2008-film, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. While his role didn’t bag a lot of appreciation then, it took the films like Dhobi Ghat, My Friend Pinto, Baaghi 2, Chhichhore amongst others that gave him critical appreciation. In his personal life, the actor is now in a steady relationship with actress, Priya Banerjee.
In an interaction with ETimes, Prateik Babbar opened up on the several hardships that he faced in his life. The actor reminisced about his childhood and expressed how hard it felt for him to grow up. For the unversed, Prateik lost his mother and talented actress, Smita Patil right after his birth. As a result, he grew up with his grandmother, who became the centre of his universe. Recollecting those days, the actor said:
“It was also hard growing up, trying to understand where my parents are? But I had a lot of fun with my grandmother. She spoiled me. Her demise was the most difficult time of my life. I knew everything will change once she was done.”

The major drop in Prateik’s life came about at the age of 18, when he fell prey to alcohol and substance abuse. Talking about that phase of his life, the actor claimed that it was the most unfair part since he completely lost himself. He further mentioned feeling dark and suicidal most of the times, as a result of which he was even sent to a rehab. Summing up his experiences, Prateik said:
“Addiction is a disease. I almost lost myself. I was obnoxious, nobody could talk to me. I was always intoxicated. So they had to trick me to get into rehab. And rehab was difficult. I was just screaming, crying. I was 18 and it scared me. It was dark, I was suicidal. I wanted to be with my grandmother. I just want to be with you maa is all I would cry.”
In the concluding segment of the interview, Prateik Babbar also talked about another heartbreaking episode of his life, when his marriage with ex-wife, Sanya Sagar ended in 2019. He emphasised that their marriage was rushed. And as it got over, he was left in total mess. Recalling how he was in a heartbreak for the longest, he said:
“We were two different people. We didn’t have time to figure each other out. It was rushed. There was some family pressure. I was 32 and I wanted to have kids by 35. It was heartbreaking. I was an absolute mess for a really long time. I got married for all the wrong reasons. But if that marriage had not failed, I wouldn’t have met the woman in my life today.”

Fast forward to now, Prateik Babbar is in a very happy and steady relationship with his ladylove and actress, Priya Banerjee. The couple have been going strong with one another for over three years now and have been quite open about their relationship to the world. For the unversed, they made their relationship official on Valentines Day this year.
