There was a spectrum of opinions on his decision, and his step-brother, Aarya Babbar, was vocal about his displeasure over the snub to his father and his family.

Prateik Smita Patil dropped his father, Raj Babbar's surname

Prateik also opened up about the reasoning behind dropping the 'Babbar' surname and calling himself 'Prateik Smita Patil'.

In a recent conversation with The Times of India, the actor revealed his reasons behind the major change. Prateik Smita Patil revealed that he shut out all the opinions and how the decision would affect his personality and career. He added that he simply wanted to do what makes him feel better and be happier.

Prateik Smita Patil further stated that he doesn't care about the repercussions as he only wants to be associated with his mother and her legacy. He also shared that he doesn't want to be like his father, Raj Babbar. He was quoted as saying:

"I don’t care about the repercussions. All I care about is the way I feel when I hear that name. I need to be wholly and solely associated with my mother, her name, and her legacy. I’m striving to be like my mother and not like my dad."

Netizens react to Prateik's decision to change his surname

The internet was left stunned by the news of Prateik officially changing his last name to Patil. However, they understood where the actor was coming from and shared their support with him. A user stated, "I've read somewhere that it was Smita Patil's parents who raised him...My heart goes out to him because imagine losing your mother at such an early age that you don't even have any memory of her, and your a**hole father was never around you!"
