It all dates back to 2014 when the report of a happy-go-lucky couple’s split started pouring in. What was surprising to the world was the reason behind their split. ‘Preity Zinta’s boyfriend, Ness Wadia molested her during an IPL match’ was the breaking news going on in television. Then came Preity Zinta’s social media tweets and statements to media and the police. Preity had filed an FIR against her ex-boyfriend (co-owner of IPL team Kings XI Punjab) accusing him of misbehaving with the team staff over distribution of tickets, and this is what she had said about him, “During that time [the match] he [Ness Wadia] tried to abuse me and used extremely derogatory language and tried to behave in a manner where I was put to shame in front of my colleagues, friends and family. I say that Ness Wadia has gone to the extent of threatening me with dire consequences and intimidating me by boasting of his political clout and connections.”
4 years have passed since the incident, when in February 2018, police finally filed a chargesheet against Ness with the following charges. Section 354 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), section 506 (criminal intimidation) and section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code. However, as per reports, Preity has finally agreed to forgive Ness and drop the molestation charge against him, after Ness issued an apology.
As per reports, Ness Wadia’s lawyer stated, “We (Wadia) want to bury the hatchet. The complainant is married now and has moved on with her life. The two even sit at the same table during the IPL players’ auction now”. Previously, Preity had stated that she is ready to drop the case, only if Ness apologises. To which, Ness’s lawyer had stated that he is not ready to apologise. The ex-flame’s petition was heard by Justice Ranjit More at the Bombay High Court, suggested to ‘finish off’ the matter. This is what he said, “Just finish it off now.” (Must Read: Preity Zinta Adds Her Husband's Name To Her Name, After 2 Years Of Marriage, Just Like Sonam K Ahuja)
Even after Preity filed a complaint against Ness, the ex-lovers were often spotted sitting together at IPL meetings and auctions. When asked about the same by TOI, this is what the dimpled-Soldier girl had shared, “Why don't you ask him why he came and sat next to me? What did you want me to do, cut the table into two halves? Kings XI Punjab is my team and I've given everything, my hard-earned money. I gave up on my film career to be part of this.” Further speaking about co-owing her IPL team, Preity shared, "What happened between me and Ness was unfortunate. But the franchise is my baby and there's no question of me cutting of my involvement with it.”
As per a 2014 interview, Preity’s co-star in many films and close friend, Saif Ali Khan had this to say about the entire Ness-Preity turmoil, “I am friends with both (Preity and Ness). I went to school with Ness and from what I know of him he is a wonderful gentleman. I am sad this has happened. I hope things are sorted out between them.” He had further added, “Both are my friends. I want both of them to be happy.”

Preity, from the very beginning was very vocal about her relationship with Ness. In a candid chat session with Simi Garewal in 2017, this is what the Veer Zaara lady had shared about her relationship, “We don’t hide our relationship from the media. We go for parties together, we go to have coffee in Barista, we go for pizzas together. But I don’t talk about him or talk about how I feel. What do I say? Those are feelings I cherish.” (Don't Miss! In yet another interview, this is what she had shared when they broke-up, “We [Ness and I] had a great relationship. I have a lot of respect for Ness and I always will. But I think sometimes you want to take a different path in life, and if you have the maturity to see that, then life is great for both the people involved. When you date someone for that long, how can you not be friends? But we are not best friends. We don’t talk to each other every day because that’s weird! I’m sure if something ever went wrong he would stand by me and vice versa, but there’s nothing more than that.”
Well, looks like all’s well that ends well! We hope that was a lesson learnt for Ness, and Preity, hats off for the courage that you have showcased.
